In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Ceyhun Kaan Karakaş graduated from Yıldız Technical University and İstanbul University, he is also the guitarist of the group which is named "Madrigal". He is interested in many things and he reflected these things into his career and also he was interested in music and he introduced himself to teenagers and the digital world. He was a great example of versatility.

Ertuğrul SABAH

Dentist

Prof.Dr. Ertuğrul Sabah who graduated from BAL has retired from Ege University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Periodontology. Since he started to work as a doctor, he has been a hope for children furthermore he provided their treatment. Dr. Ertuğrul Sabah created a dental clinic with his exertion and donations. By visiting this clinic and some special education centers for the handicapped, he treated children who are mentally disabled and have been staying at a boarding school having economic problems for free. He has touched the lives of many children with his volunteer work for 35 years.

Fikri YARGICI

Entrepreneur Businessman, Musician

Fikri Yargıcı was born on February 20th, 1979 in Osmaniye. He was educated at Ege University, Department of Agricultural Machinery Engineering, but while he was in university, he didn’t feel that he belonged to the department he studied and turned to music, and started playing drums. While his music career was ongoing, he opened a Studio-Cafe named "Drum House Cafe". Fikri Yargıcı, who has been teaching for 20 years, is also a drummer of "Istanbul Agop Zilleri", a Tama drum artist.

Hilal ARSLAN

Entrepreneur

Hilal Arslan 2007 BAL Graduate, entrepreneur, white collar talent scout, storyteller, founder of NextUp recruitment brand. NextUp was founded on the eve of her baby's first birthday by a dreamer and a woman entrepreneur in love with her profession, with the dream of the right job, and a meaningful life. Hilal Arslan went as far as the Himalayas with her passion for Essence, in pursuit of human stories. She met the profession of her life, “recruitment consultancy” at the age of 26. At the end of three years, she got a global award in the Swiss Alps, when she returned to Turkey, she said that there is something wrong with this business and she resigned and founded her own company.

Ozan SÖNMEZ

Entrepreneur, Educator

Ozan Sönmez, a BAL'97 graduate, is a start-up consultant and acceleration center manager who has been working on the development and investment of various start-up programs for more than 10 years. During his career, he worked as an investor and finance specialist in many global companies. He continues to provide mentoring and refereeing support in start-up competitions from Silicon Valley to the Middle East. He is a successful pioneer who was nominated for the International Leaders Program organized by the US Department of State in 2013.

Selin Rudar SEVİMLİ

Pilot

Ever since her high school times, BAL’08 graduate Selin Rudar Sevimli’s goal was to be a pilot. After her high school education, she completed her pilotage education at Anadolu University. She started working for Turkish Airlines in 2013 after her university life was over. Besides her achievements, Selin Rudar Sevimli is also known for being the youngest captain pilot working for Turkish Airlines.

Sena NOMAK

Marine Engineer, Founder

Sena Nomak, one of the BAL'98 graduates, spent his university years at the maritime faculty. After graduating, he felt that being at sea limited his life and returned to land. Thanks to his foreign language skills, he worked as an engineer in a shipyard. He signed great deals and successful tenders. He started his own engineering company to spend more time with his two daughters. Taking advantage of the experience he gained, he founded a biotechnology startup with her older sister, who is a chemical engineer.
