In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Cindy Jardine

Professor

Dr. Cindy Jardine is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Health and Community at the University of the Fraser Valley. She has more than 20 years of experience conducting research in the area of health risk communication. Her specific focus is on developing more effective dialogue around risks through a better understanding of risk issues, concerns and information needs for different populations. Much of her work is done in partnership with Indigenous and newcomer populations. Dr. Jardine is the former Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Qualitative Methods and a former Fulbright Scholar.

Jennie Moore

Professor

Dr. Jennie Moore is an accomplished and recognized global leader in sustainability whose work and leadership has received local, national and international acclaim, Jennie launches sustainability-focused industry practices and educational standards that make our community a better place in which to live and work. A LEED-accredited professional, Jennie’s work received an Environmental Citizenship Award from the federal government for her groundbreaking Employee Trip Reduction program.

Jordan Eshpeter

Director of strategy

Jordan Eshpeter is the Director of Strategy at Invoke Digital where he leads the research and planning practice. Jordan is also pursuing a master's degree in interactive arts and technology at Simon Fraser University. As part of the Everyday Design Studio at SFU, his research focus is at the intersection of the philosophy of technology, ethics, and design practice. Jordan also hosts a technology-ethics discussion group called Ethicism. Previously, he collaborated with Swedish design and technology school Hyper Island on a series of workshops and currently contributes to the Open Roboethics Institute and the International Jacques Ellul Society.

Mara Mennicken

Mara is a Social Entrepreneur originally form Cologne, Germany. She came to Vancouver in 2015 to study Community Leadership and Social Change. In 2017, she founded her chocolate company The Good Chocolatier Inc. with deep interest in empowering communities by offering new economic opportunities. In 2018, she transformed her business to a Social Enterprise and has been an advocate in the field since. Besides the social pillar of sustainability, she also genuinely practices environmental sustainability through business and in everyday life. Former Community Manager at Dudoc Vancouver, Yoga and Meditation Instructor.

Saint Soldier

Artist

Saint Soldier is a Punjab-born Canadian hip hop and spoken word artist. His work discusses eastern and Hermetic spiritual principles, while touching on social justice issues from time to time. He's released 3 studio albums over the past 9 years; Infinity(2011) Duality(2016) and Karma(2020). He calls this trilogy "IDK".

Satwinder Bains

Professor

Dr. Satwinder Kaur Bains is the Director of the South Asian Studies Institute at the University of the Fraser Valley and an Associate Professor in Social Cultural Media Studies. Satwinder’s critical analysis of India’s multilingual policy and planning, has fueled her interest to study the impact of language, culture and identity on South Asian Canadian migration, settlement, and integration. Her research includes and intersects cross-cultural education with a focus on anti-racist curriculum implementation; race, racism, and ethnicity; identity politics; Sikh feminist ideology; migration and the South Asian Canadian Diaspora and Punjabi Canadian cultural historiography.

Tsandlia Van Ry

Educator

Stó:lō educator, and recent graduate of the University of the Fraser Valley. Currently working, living and exploring the traditional, unceded and ancestral territory of the Ts'elxwéyeqw peoples. Passionate about social justice reform, culturally responsive pedagogy and strengthening school through inclusion and diversity. UFV's 2020 recipient of the Lieutenant governor’s medal for Inclusion, Diversity and Reconciliation.
