In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Janet Anderson

Teacher Librarian at Barrington High School

Janet Anderson is a former sales manager for a Graphics Peripheral manufacturing company. After the death of her father and some introspection, Anderson determined she wanted to make a more personal impact on the world as….yes, a school librarian. Returning to school, Janet received her K-12 teaching certificate and Masters in Library Information Science. Janet began her school librarian career in Naperville districts 204, 203, and Oswego 308. She has been a teacher librarian at Barrington High School since 2007. Janet is passionate about the difference books can make in people’s lives. She has spoken at conferences throughout the United States with authors ReLeah Lent, Marsha Voigt and a team of BHS faculty members on disciplinary literacy. Janet is on the District 220 Equity team, the BHS Literacy Cohort and the Social Emotional Learning team. She is a faculty advisor to the Gay Straight Alliance (GSA), the Anime Club, and the Unsilence group.

Melissa Buckley

JourneyCare Foundation Trustee, former BStrong Together founding president & long-time community volunteer

Melissa and her husband, Dave, live in Barrington where they raised two daughters. After a career in business consulting, she decided to focus her energies on raising her two children. As they grew older and entered school, Melissa began to describe her work outside the home as a “professional volunteer.” She was president of the woman’s group at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church and has been a member or served as chairperson on their Outreach committee for 15 years. She found the greatest rewards working in her children’s schools and on PTO committees. She eventually served as President of the PTO at Lines Elementary School and Barrington High School and Chairperson of the PTO Presidents’ Council. A deep commitment to the mental health and social emotional well-being of children and teens, led her to be the founding President of BStrong Together in 2015. She is currently a Trustee on the JourneyCare Foundation Board and member of several other civic organizations in the Barrington area.
