Caterina Mainero

Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School

Dr. Caterina Mainero is an Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and Director of Multiple Sclerosis Research at the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Dr. Mainero research is focused on bringing novel technical developments in MR imaging to investigate neurological disorders, with a focus on white matter diseases of the central nervous system including multiple sclerosis (MS) and migraine. Hers goal is to combine these methods with clinical and/or biological markers of the disease to investigate how different aspects of MS pathology impact disease activity and evolution.

Dal 2018 sono la coordinatrice del Master in Comunicazione della scienza e dell’innovazione all’Università di Trento, dove tengo anche corsi di comunicazione scientifica nei social media. The passion for science brought me to study first telecommunication engineering then applied physics. I also enjoy getting in touch with new cultures, and found a way to work in many different places around the world: at universities, research institutes and high-tech companies as well as at NPOs. Right now, I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Trento, Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science, and Head of ULTRa (Ultrasound Lab Trento). My research activity focuses on signal processing, image formation and image analysis of mostly medical imaging applications of ultrasound technologies.
