For the first-ever virtual TEDxIEMadrid, we will be exploring the stories of inspiring individuals who, against all odds, have found a bright path.

Through these stories, we want to invite our community to reflect about how they might beat the odds themselves.

A total of 100 exclusive attendees can expect
interactive breakout sessions and giveaways.

The event will take place on Friday, June 19th with two split sessions to accommodate different time zones. Attendees will have the option to join either the Morning Session (10AM to 11:30AM CEST) or the Afternoon Session (5PM to 6:30PM CEST).

Abideen Mohammed Salah

Global Filmmaker from Western Sahara
Abidin is a global filmmaker from Western Sahara and a current student at ie university. He attended Li Po Chun UWC in Hong Kong where he obtained the IB diploma, and then started his university journey.He grew up in the Saharawi refugee camps, where he makes most of his films now. ATIL documental is his latest work, directing and producing it along with other filmmakers. He is part of the group that runs Saharawi Voice, a media platform that advo-cates for human rights.

Amelie de Marsily

Academic Director, Center for Health, Well-Being & Happiness at IE University
Amélie is deeply interested in people and leadership. She lives her life guided by curiosity and is attracted to new ventures and exploration of places, projects, and people – with unwavering positivity! She is currently the Academic Director for IE’s recently created Center for Health, Well-being & Happiness. Prior to joining IE, she worked at Cisco Systems, a global IT and networking company, as a lawyer and then as a business leader, having before that trained and practiced as an avocat in Paris.

David Bernardo Santo

Co-Founder of LITS Ebusiness & Ebusiness Academy
David is a partner and founder of LITS Ebusiness, a consulting firm specialized in electronic commerce that works with several leading companies in the market in Mexico such as Walmart, Liverpool, Palacio de Hierro, Grupo Salinas, among others. He is currently a professor of ecommerce and digital marketing at the MIMS Program in Europe (# 3 master in management according to the Financial Times) where he was considered the best professor by students. David has an MBA from Darden Business School, University of Virginia, and has been working with ecommerce since 1999.

Eun Suk Hong

IE Business School MBA+MBD Alumni
Eun Suk, MBA and MBD dual degree student at IE, is an ex-DACA recipient from the United States of America. The latter is determined to achieve his success by creating his path despite the overwhelming odds stacked against him. Before moving to Madrid, Spain, Eun Suk worked as a financial planner, IT project manager, and non-profit lobbyist to advocate for undocumented immigrants’ human rights. Being the first of his family to live in the United States, his circumstances of being an undocumented altered his path to pursue yet another milestone to become the first to live in Europe and to obtain two Masters degrees without any possibilities of going back to his home for the next ten years.

Ibrahim Al-Marash

Visiting Professor, IE School of Global & Public Affairs
Doctor Ibrahim al-Marashi is an associate professor at California State University, San Marcos, researching modern Iraqi history. He holds a doctor of philosophy in history from Oxford University (2004), where his thesis was on the Iraqi Invasion of Kuwait; a master's degree in political science from Georgetown University, which he had received in 1997; and a bachelor's degree in history and Near Eastern studies from the University of California Los Angeles.He is best known as the author of an article which was plagiarised by the British government in a 2003 briefing document entitled Iraq: Its Infrastructure of Concealment, Deception and Intimidation (see Dodgy Dossier). This document was a follow-up to the earlier September Dossier, both of which concerned Iraq and weapons of mass destruction and were ultimately used by the government to justify its involvement in the 2003 Invasion of Iraq.

Julián Isla

Chief Scientific Officer of the European Dravet Syndrome Federation, and European organization of patients with Dravet Syndrome
Julian is the Resource Manager for Artificial Intelligence Group at Microsoft Consulting Services; as well as the Chief Scientific Officer of the European Dravet Syndrome Federation. Julian’s six-year-old son, Sergio, was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome, and despite not having a medical background he gained the skills to be part of the Orphan Drug Committee at the European Medicines Agency (EMA as patient representative. Julian is also part of the Therapeutic Advisory Group for Eurordis, the larg-est organization of rare diseases in Europe. In Spain, he is member of the scientific advisory group for Ciberer – Spanish Network for Research on Rare Diseases.

Nathalie Jacobs

Brain Tumor Survivor & Founding Member of the CTBTA
Fluent in English, Spanish, and French, Nathalie studied at Universidad de Los Andes in Colombia and received her master’s in business administration from IE Business School. She then spent ten years working for Fortune 500 companies in five different countries and won several national sailing championships. After undergoing brain surgery and being left unable to work, Nathalie discovered her new passion—helping others. After becoming an Author, she now focuses on being the best mother she can be, and inspiring people around the world with her story.

Shiva Roofeh

Cultural Intelligence Expert
Shiva is a global trainer, facilitator and consultant working and playing in the topics of Leading by Design and Cul-tural Intelligence. She was born in Iran, lived in Italy as a refugee, grew up in NYC and has spent the past 12 years living in Spain while working globally. All of these experiences led her to realize that lives can change when our internal monologues change. Balancing accountability, compassion and a bit of attitude, she now works in the spaces of leadership and cultural intelligence that address the inner voice and the one thing we all have ultimate control over – our thoughts.
