Gabe Toea
Debate Captain
Gabe Toea is captain of Crescent Valley’s Speech and Debate team and has competed for the team for the past three years. Before that, Gabe was part of the Debate team at Jack Britt High School in North Carolina, where he was a Lincoln Douglas debater. Here in Oregon, he continued to do Lincoln Douglas debate until his Junior year, where he switched to Parliamentary debate. He’s a two-time district champion in Lincoln Douglas Debate and district champion in Parliamentary Debate. Gabe has been to the State debate tournament for the past three consecutive years. As captain of Speech and Debate, Gabe has been training new members of the team to improve their speaking and debating skills. As a result, he has acquired extensive knowledge in debate and rhetoric.
Guthrie Hausken
School System Critic
Guthrie Hausken is a senior at Crescent Valley high school. He is passionate about language and philosophy, technically fluent in Spanish, and active in the speech and debate community. He was born and raised in Corvallis. Not only is he involved in the local music scene of Corvallis, but he is also a high-jumper for the track team, as well as an avid skier. Though not the most willing participant of the school system, Guthrie is socially outgoing in extracurriculars and with his peers. He went on exchange and lived with host families in Spain and Costa Rica.
Gwen Gray
All Student Body President
Gwen Gray is co-All Student Body President of Crescent Valley High School. She loves creating short comedy films, running cross country, and planning school events. Some of her favorite high school memories include choreographing the class dance, emceeing the talent show, and hosting the Holiday Dash. After college, she plans on making movies and running ultramarathons, among other things. Juan Castillo Delgado
Poet
Juan is the Speech Captain of the Corvallis Speech & Debate team and works mainly in performing poetry. As a freshman on the team, Juan managed to final in the Poetry Reading event. He does poetry reading on the team to promote the conversation among poets and to share the artists’ struggle for their integrity. He believes that there is a claim of a special human experience that only the poets can make, and he wants to share that experience to the world; his own means of sharing that range all the way from making poetry to cooking a Totino’s Pizza Rolls Pizza.
Madeleine Guillaumot
Climate Change Activist
Madeleine Guillaumot was born and raised in Corvallis and will graduate from Crescent Valley High School this year. She splits her time between her passion for classical Russian ballet and cello, and is a member of the Willamette Apprentice Ballet Company and Corvallis Youth Symphony. She is also an avid activist and works to combat issues such as climate change, gun violence, and homelessness. Throughout her life, Madeleine has been prompted to contemplate the impact of food, and is eager to share her findings with the community. She will continue her education in college next year, where she plans to study medicine while continuing to play cello and dance ballet.
Reed Vega
Mountain Biker
Reed Vega, a senior at Crescent Valley High school, is an avid mountain bike rider and racer. In 2019, he placed 6th overall for the State of Oregon High School Cross Country Mountain Bike Racing circuit. Reed established and leads the Crescent Valley Mountain Bike Club and has brought many new people into the sport he loves. Reed has been a member of the Crescent Valley Swim Team for four years, swimming varsity and helping the team win 3rd place at the District Finals his senior year. Reed is a hard worker and confident leader who is dedicated to living his life on the lighter (and edgier) side. As he likes to say: “If you want to do something, stop worrying, go do it, and accept what comes next.”
