Theme: 2017... the worst year ever?

Happy New Year and a fabulous start into the new decade!

Let's have a look at how we are doing:

In analysis of recent data on homicide, war, poverty, pollution and more, what do we find? Are we doing better now in every one of them when compared with 30 years ago? Progress is problem-solving, and should we not look at things like climate change and nuclear war as problems to be solved, instead of "apocalypses" in waiting. We will never have a perfect world, and it would be dangerous to seek one, but there's no limit to the betterments we can attain if we continue to apply knowledge to enhance human flourishing.
