In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Brad Smith perfectly exemplifies the nature of his TEDx talk, on effectively managing time in college in order to enjoy a rich, full life, while keeping your grades up. He earned a 4.0 GPA, en route to graduating Summa Cum Laude from YSU in 2015, even while participating in YS baseball all four years. He then brought his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration back to his family business, as a fourth generation co-owner of Compco Industries. In addition to his career, he became a Freemason in Ohio in 2017, and has pursued multiple leadership and communication courses, including John Maxwell Executive Circle, Rooftop Leadership, Business NLP Practitioner, and courses on dynamic public speaking. In 2018, Brad married his college sweetheart Ashley, and still finds time for golf, coaching baseball, and travel.

Gregg Sturrus

Professor of Physics at Youngstown State University, Department Chair of Physics, Astronomy, Geology, and Environmental Science

William Gregory Sturrus was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, graduated from Jenison High School and lived in western Michigan through his years in college. He graduated from Hope College in Holland, Michigan with a degree in physics and mathematics and continued on to attend graduate school in atomic physics at the University of Notre Dame. He became a postdoctoral associate at the University of Virginia working there for almost 3 years before being hired at Youngstown State University in the Department of Physics and Astronomy in 1991. His two daughters graduated from YSU, one now works as a registered nurse in Columbus, and the other as a CPA in Liberty, Ohio. His research interests are studying the excitation of atoms, ions, and nanoparticles using laser and radiofrequency radiation.
