If you read the daily news, the United States is in the middle of a national opioid crisis. In 2017, there were 749 overdose deaths involving opioids in South Carolina--a rate of 15.5 deaths per 100,000 persons compared to the national rate of 14.6 deaths per 100,000 persons.
