Aloha, Hickam Community….THE FUTURE IS HERE! Are you ready? Foresight is the ability to anticipate what may happen or what may be needed in the future. As we settle into calendar year 2020, we have more technology than ever before in history. We are also struggling with as many or more societal issues than ever before. How do we envision the next 50 years of progress? How will we use our collective wisdom to create the most compelling, meaningful, vibrant, and satisfying future possible?
Now is the time to evaluate what we most need to improve and how we are going to enhance our environments in a way that preserves our precious personal connections, which transcend technological innovation and the lure of creating a better mousetrap. As we solve problems, we must remember that we are the people whose lives should be enhanced as we find better ways of doing things. We are the people who must harness our collective powers in a way that honors our individual differences and maximizes the positive effect of our unique talents and experiences. When we truly embrace our connectedness and make a habit of sharing what we are seeing and experiencing, we can move forward together and achieve perfect 20/20 Vision.

Great Power Competition in the Pacific: Win, Lose, Draw or…

Col Hoffman is the Chief of Strategy and Plans, Headquarters Pacific Air Forces. He is responsible for the oversight of the creation of PACAF strategy, operational plans, as well as theater campaign support plans. He supports PACAF’s primary mission of providing ready air and space power to promote United States interests in the Asia-Pacific region during peacetime, through crisis, and war. He is also a Command Pilot with over 3300 total flying hours, including more than 2700 hours — and over 800 combat hours — in the A-10.

After serving 20 years in the United States Navy, Danilo found his passion for public speaking as a Toastmaster. Growing up without a father figure and role model has lead him to share his voice and experiences with the younger generation. As a Junior Toastmaster Youth Leadership Coordinator, he believes that the future is all around us and it is up to us to guide, nurture, and cultivate these young minds so that they can become the best of what they can be as future leaders tomorrow.

Dr. Kailiwai directs the Command’s innovation and science and technology efforts. He is a Distinguished Graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, has a Master of Science degree from the California Institute of Technology, and a doctorate from the University of Southern California. He is a two-time winner of the Kelly Johnson Award in innovation and a Distinguished Alumnus of the USAF Test Pilot School.

Founder of Autism Fitness, Creator of the Physical, Adaptive, and Cognitive (PAC) Profile Method, and lead trainer for the Autism Fitness Certification. He is the Co-Founder of equipment company Stronger than U. Spent 15+ years as an independent contractor working with the Johns Hopkins Neurology department. Understands the needs of the Hickam Community represent the same requirements on a global scale; how to develop appropriate, effective, lifelong fitness programs for those with developmental disabilities. Parents, caregivers, and professionals in the Hickam community and beyond connect with the tremendous need for programs that enhance physical well-being and independence. Empowering a community, anywhere, through fitness enhances a of myriad life skills.

Leadership

Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr. is the Commander, Pacific Air Forces; Air Component Commander for U.S. Indo-Pacific Command; and Executive Director, Pacific Air Combat Operations Staff, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. PACAF is responsible for Air Force activities spread over half the globe in a command that supports more than 46,000 Airmen serving principally in Japan, Korea, Hawaii, Alaska and Guam.

Hannah Bethard

Youth Suicide and Military Youth

Hannah Bethard served as JBPHH Teen Center’s Military Youth of the Year for three years running and is and an active participant with the JBPHH Teen Center and several club programs at her school to include JROTC, Cooking Club, Art Club, and SMART Girls (a female leadership, volunteering and empowerment club) She is a teenage mental health advocate and public speaker, combining her passion for advocacy with the power of her own voice and experience. She has spoken publicly for on own visions with the Hickam community, and with Hawai’i’s military community as a whole. Her message explains how everyone in the community can help our youth in order to benefit their mental health and reduce military youth suicide rates - an issue that everyone in the community feels when it hits close to home.

How Collaboration and Reinvention Cure Complacency

Before retiring in 2018, Mr. Ferrer was the Chief Designer and Architect of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing video teleconferencing system. His communications background includes time with Hawaii Public Television, KGMB-TV and with the Public Affairs office on Pearl Harbor. Jicky is an American Film Institute Fellow, a 3-time Distinguished Toastmaster, a 2-time Toastmaster of the year recipient and a US Patent holder.

Robert Cravalho, MPA, DTM, AS

Robert Cravalho, affectionately known as Bobby Cravalho to his friends, served as a Honolulu police officer for over 30 years. As a police officer, he was assigned as a hostage negotiator and effectively managed conflicts with deadly consequences. Robert has taken his training and experience and created an entertaining presentation that provides tools that anyone can use to manage conflict in their everyday life. Robert is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and is on the faculty at the Hawaii Pacific University. In 2017, Robert received the coveted Accredited Speaker designation from Toastmasters International and is only one of 81 Toastmasters in the world to achieve this designation. He has demonstrated his ability to combine his expertise with the mastery of the spoken word. Robert is ready and willing to help you and your team become the best you can be.

Rose is Native Hawaiian, one of 15 siblings and grew up on Nanakuli Hawaiian Homestead. Rose has over 35 years as a career Mortgage Banker, formerly Vice President with The Kissell Company, subsidiary of PNC Financial. Rose has served as Director on several non profit organization boards including the Maui Food Bank. A Distinguished Toastmaster, Toastmasters International Hawaii District 49 Past District Director and current Public Relations Manager Rose is passionate about time with family and friends, traveling, food, writing books, experiencing different cultures, learning to speak multiple languages and the path to inner peace and happiness! Rose believes that happy people contribute to making the world a better place! She is convinced that growing up in the islands, the home of the 'aloha spirit' makes for the innate moral character of kindness. Kindness is contagious and inevitably ripples across oceans, horizons, one person at a time!

How to Raise Your K.I.L.

SMSgt Charles Edwards is the Squadron Operations Superintendent for the 8th Intelligence Squadron and an 18-year veteran that has served as a computer programmer and geospatial intelligence analyst. He has won multiple prestigious awards to include twice being selected as the Senior Enlisted Service Member of the Year for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. He oversees the operations and mentorship of 385 Airmen impacting worldwide events. He takes care of the people whose work appears on international news frequently and never can receive public credit. Hickam is full of Airmen, Civilians, and Contractors puzzling their way through being successful in their field, and he looks to share painfully-won wisdom to help them make those success points more likely and occur more rapidly.

SSgt Colbert is an active duty Airman and a champion of how to overcome trauma as well as mental illness such chronic depression and anxiety. She has overcome obstacles to become a person who lives life to the fullest instead of merely surviving. Has helped two people overcome suicide.

Everything We Make Will Fail Unless We Make Innovation a Habit

Technical Sergeant Daniel Hulter is an Active-Duty Air Force NCO with extensive personal and professional involvement in Air Force and Defense innovation. He currently serves as the Hawaii lead for the non-profit Defense Entrepreneurs Forum. He recently began work as a unit technical director after serving as Non-commissioned Officer in Charge of the 70th Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance Wing's innovation office. Daniel has written several articles on the subject of innovation with published works in The Strategy Bridge and the Air Force professional journal Over the Horizon.
