The Washington Branch Library will be hosting a TEDx Talk on the topic of Internet safety and privacy. This program will be held at the Washington Branch Library, located at 220 N. 300 E. in Washington. “This particular topic was chosen as a TEDx Talk discussion because Internet safety and privacy are a major issue in today’s technology rich world.” states Reference Librarian, Lorie Womack
This TEDx event will be based on the TED talk entitled “Think your E-Mail is private, Think Again” given by Andy Yen. He holds a Doctorate of Partical Physics. Dr. Yen is the co –founder and Chief Executive Officer of ProtonMail. Today ProtonMail offers a viable option for Internet safety and privacy to millions of users around the world. He left his job at CERN (a European organization for nuclear research) in 2013 to start ProtonMail with some friends after the Snowden Leak. One of the major reasons he left CERN was his concerns about the lack of privacy and safety in the use of the Internet and e-mail.
Some of the specific items that will be discussed as part of this TEDx event are 1) Using safe usernames and passwords; 2) What information to post and what not to post; 3) Ways to monitor what your children are accessing; 4) How to protect your privacy and much more.
