x = independently organized TED event

Theme: Turn the Page

This event occurred on
May 16, 2020
Boca Raton, Florida
United States

If your life was a novel, with chapters and characters, settings and scenes, then each page would be a day or a moment. Sometimes turning the page means instead of lingering on a passage, a scene, or a memory, we redirect our narrative or truly start anew. Every blank page invites us in and empowers us to find the courage to write our story. This year’s TEDxSaintAndrewsSchool challenges both speakers and audience members to craft the next chapter in their lives or even start a new book altogether.

Anu Ramdin

student
Anu Ramdin is currently a senior at Saint Andrew’s School and will attend college in the fall. Her hope is to fulfill her daydream of becoming a biomedical engineer. In the classroom, Anu loves learning about the world through science, toying with numbers in math, or playing the guitar. She contributes to the Saint Andrew’s community through her time spent as a member of the Engineering Club and the FTC Robotics Club. Anu loves spending time with her siblings, making pancakes, watching movies, and volunteering with various community service projects, including Equine Assisted Therapies, Project ROC, and Stratford Court of Boca Pointe. Anu is enthusiastic about giving her TED talk because she wants to learn more about her abilities and she wants to express her truth through a large and loud platform. Anu is proud of how she has continued to persevere through life, and she is ready to channel this perseverance into productivity and motivation in order to share her ideas with others!

Bella de los Rios

student
Bella was born and raised in Boca Raton but comes from a Colombian and Venezuelan background. She has been a member of the Saint Andrew’s community for 10 years and enjoys learning in her math class and Spanish class. She is an active member of clubs such as Mu Alpha Theta and the H.O.L.A. club. She loves playing the guitar and listening to music in her spare time. She also enjoys watching movies and YouTube videos. TED-Ed is something that puts Bella completely out of her comfort zone, but she knows it will be helpful. She also believes that creating a Student TED Talk and putting out her important message to people her age is meaningful as it will hopefully impact their life. She is hoping to change the way people view her topic in an unexpected way and make them realize something about themselves from listening to her story.

Fredrik Malmstrom

student
This is Fredrik's first year at Saint Andrew's and he is originally from Helsinki, Finland. He enjoys spending time at the gym working out, sitting by the lake, and hanging out in his dorm room. When not immersed in school activities he can be seen hanging out with his friends and family. Fredrik also enjoys water activities and loves exploring the world. In Lower School, he received three separate friendship awards, and in High School, he was given a “friendship” scholarship. Fredrik is most proud of his school district singing competitions and the trophies he has won through group sports. Fredrik was excited about TED-Ed because he wanted to work on his public speaking skills and try something new! Through his talk, he wants to open people’s minds to his idea and leave a lasting impact.

Isabela Nash

student
Isabela was born and raised in Boca Raton, Florida. She has attended Saint Andrew’s School for 5 years, and her father is an alum and graduated in 1995. Isabela is the social media coordinator for the Black Student Union and is very passionate about the cheer program at school. Her bubbly personality can be felt on and off the field. Not only does she enjoy cheerleading, but she loves to spend time writing, painting and hanging out with friends. She is enthusiastic about TED-Ed because she believes that her ideas are worth sharing and that this is the perfect platform to develop her unique perspective. She hopes that the audience will be gifted something valuable and that her talk will transform a "simple" idea.

She is passionate about her English and Psychology classes and is a keen member of clubs such as Honor Council, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Spanish Honors Society.
