"Roots" are the point of course or existence of something that applies to the things or persons which causes the overall impact of the being.

It spreads to the point where something springs into being and stresses the beginning of something without implying causes.

This year at TEDxSJECollege we strive to seek and explore the depth of the ROOTS to inspire and aspire your ideas.

Author and Philosopher

Entrepreneur turned philosopher, AiR transformed his life from a successful entrepreneur to focus on the more important aspects of society such as humanitarian concern and welfare of the oppressed. He is known for his ability to usher in change across all strata of society and initiate a revolution in thinking and action. As a speaker, he has addressed several Young Presidents Organization gatherings on both national and international levels. As a part of his humanitarian initiative, he has set up several charitable homes and provided refuge for over 600 suffering people in these destitute homes and satisfying their basic needs and wellbeing.

Alina Alam

Social Entrepreneur, Founder, Mitti Cafe.

When the world called them disabled, she proved that they were differently abled. Alina Alam, founder of Mitti Café, who seeks to empower people from the most vulnerable factions of society by helping them lead a dignified life. While she was doing her internship for Samarthnam trust for disabled, she realised the untapped potential in people with disabilities and wanted to make their lives better. Her endeavour, Mitti Café, was set up in 2017, to create a viable platform for adults with physical, intellectual and multiple disabilities realize their potential while creating awareness of equal opportunity in the workplace. As a recognition of her dedication, she has been awarded with the Helen Keller award, Times of India she unlimited award, Microsoft Nipman award as well as the promising social enterprise award from the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi.

Anand Rathnam

Stand Up Comedian

Mediocre civil engineer turned stand-up comedian; Anand Rathnam shares his life stories with a touch of spice to win his audience over with laughter. Anand's brand of comedy is observational and opinionated, often drawn from his real-life experiences He has performed in several places across South India like Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai, while also performing alongside some of the biggest comedians in one of India's premier comedy festival, The Bengaluru Comedy festival. Drawing inspiration from some of the legends in stand-up comedy such as Russell Peters and Jerry Seinfeld, Anand's brand of comedy is observational and opinionated, often drawn from his real-life experiences. Popular for his routine on Marriage and Single Life, which has cumulated over a million views each, he is under no illusion of the struggles of an artist and the difficulties of writing original material.

Arvind Narayanan

Hydroponic Grower

Arvind Narayanan, A self-driven young entrepreneur has been working towards improvising Indian agriculture system. He aims to create responsibilities in the minds of today's youth towards global warming and climate change. In India, the agriculture sector occupies a vital position in the economy of the country! That being said, Arvind with his passion to learn strongly believes in continuous improvement. He has also been a part of many agricultural projects like Joker food industries, ecotree solution and helped them grow to another level. His works have contributed in making hydroponics a commercial reality for Indian needs. Arvind is a co-founder of Agrichange which has been recognized as one of India's top 25 student startups by Tata and National entrepreneur network. Like this Arvind's many works have been recognized and rewarded by many such dignitaries.

Deeksha Sharma

Postdoctoral Fellow, Cornell University

Who knew that backing with an engineering degree would lead to a path devoted to transforming lives by gaining expertise in emotional intelligence and mental health? Great instance follows with the name, Dr. Deeksha Sharma, who strives to empower youth by providing space for emotional well-being. Her zeal to learn and impart knowledge is fueled by her passion in the fields of research and teaching. She has been awarded for her thesis and presentations by several global reviewers and is currently pursuing a Post-Doctoral fellowship at Cornell University, Ithaca, USA. In addition to her highly lauded teaching experience, she is also a speaker, and an author of an upcoming book. She has imparted the concept of neuroplasticity - 'To learn one thing new everyday so as to let your brain rewire to be stronger than the day before.’ She looks forward to build a platform for learning and knowledge exchange and research with a niche direction to help mankind move one step forward in society.

Gaurav Sharma

Waste Management Activist

Wealth out of waste is best defined by Gaurav Sharma, CEO and Happiness Head of Thankyou, a non-profit social enterprise inspired by the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, that is changing the landscape of waste management in India. Gaurav Sharma emphasizes the need to take care of one's own waste. He hails from the historical city of Chitorgarh, Rajasthan. As a former engineer, the lack of recycling infrastructure and outdated technology was seen as an opportunity by Gaurav who seeks to build a world without waste. With his team, he offers solutions for waste management and also a platform for trading waste, for companies and even households. Through the integration of technology in waste management, and the study of consumer and waste behavioral patterns, his enterprise provides sustainable solutions towards building a cleaner and healthier society.

Montry Manuel

Musician

Percussionist, graphic designer and artist, Montry Manuel, founded Thaalavattam in 2011. Growing up in the Southern Indian port city of Cochin, he was influenced by his father, who instilled in him a deep love for music and the Planet. Montry played in the popular Indian Indie band Swarathma for 7 years, before breaking away to pursue his dream of making a difference for the environment, through music. Thaalavattam, means ‘A Circle of Rhythm,’ is a unique percussion-project from India that harnesses the universal power of music to inspire people to REDUCE, REUSE AND RETUNE. They fashion all their musical instruments from FOUND OBJECTS creating cutting-edge sounds and inspiring creative action. Their ‘organic grooves’ emerge from discarded tubes, industrial waste materials, paint cans, plastic bottles, bicycle parts, These are reborn as hybrid percussion kits, oating jugs, tubes, didgeridoos and then electronically sampled to offer a musical experience that is earthy and organic
