Alina Burney
Pre-Registration Pharmacist & Peer Mentorship Researcher
Alina is currently a pre-registration pharmacist (2019). She is particularly interested in community pharmacy and the effect it can have on communities, beyond the administration of medicine.
Whilst at university, she regularly taught classes and mentored her peers. She is passionate about peer-to-peer knowledge exchange and has conducted research into a pilot peer-mentoring programme at the University of Lincoln. Her research was used to adapt and improve the programme the following year.
In the future, she intends to continue this research into peer-work, co-working and community, and their effect on education.

She is currently undertaking Doctor of Philosophy - PhD Scholar/ Researcher focused in Business Management.
Arran Stirton
Education Researcher & Physicist
Coming from a background in Physics, Arran found herself intrinsically interested in the way that students approached their studies. A natural leader and mentor, she went on to conduct research into Education.
Her research explores the affect of spaced repetition within learning. She uses rigorous methods of data collection, to design, implement and understand the way that students learning improves when exposed to spaced learning and repeated testing.
She developed a learning app and has co-designed a research project based around university level study. Her instrumental findings challenge the traditional way of measuring success in the academic field.

A Cultural Ambassador and Community Role-Model, Ayan is a woman of many hats.
Board Member at West Midlands Combined Authority Youth Board, Vice President of Aston Somali Society and Vice President of SYFI (Midlands Region). Politics and Economics Student at Aston University, Freelance Project Manager, Public Speaker and Spoken Word Artist.
Ayan is passionate about leaving an impact on her community, of preserving culture and inspiring the next generation of leaders. Her work deals with themes of identity and legacy.
Bushra Zafar

Bushra is a student at De Montfort University, studying a Global MBA. She is the Post-Graduate Representative within the DSU, as well as the Chairperson & Co-Founder of the Enterprise Society.
She joined the TEDxDeMontfortUWomen speaker list via a dedicated student competition. Here we asked students to compete for a single spot within our programme by sending us a proposal for a talk. Following this we conducted presentation-based interviews.
Bushra wowed us with her strength of character. She opened up about a vulnerable experience she had encountered and its affect on her confidence. Her personal insight and openness was thought to be of great value to our student body, and thus she was crowned the winner of our competition.

Jemma is the Director of Access Generation, a social enterprise which specialises in youth recruitment. Her mission is to share young people’s views and expectations to help businesses become more visible and attractive to young people.
Through her marketing strategy, she has engaged with over 700 businesses either face-to-face or through speaking engagements at events. As well as supporting businesses, Access Generation are proud to be supporting community programmes with employer engagement activity as a delivery partner for the Prince’s Trust.

A talented primary school teacher, bubbling with energy, as well as a dedicated volunteer. Kate has worked at LRTT (Limited Resource Teacher Training) for 5 years; a charity which believes that quality education should be available to everyone.
Aware of the harmful effects of 'voluntourism', Kate is passionate about educating communities on what effective volunteering entails. LRTT does so by sending only fully trained teachers overseas. Their role is not to teach students, but to deliver CPD to existing teachers in country.
By offering these continual enrichment activities and knowledge-exchange, both local teacher and teacher volunteers alike can seek to become better teachers. They finish the programme with new found motivation to make an impact on the lives of those in their communities.

In 2018, Sonya founded Like Minded Females (LMF), a female empowerment & diversity network, with the objective to create female-friendly events which enhance life skills and empower women. Founded with the intent to educate, empower, provide a sense of community and mitigate mental health issues, LMF has engaged with over 12,000 people, grown the social community to over 8,000 followers, hosted over 30 events and been recognised as a key player in social mobility.
