This event occurred on

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Ina Aram

This is Ina. Ina is 16. Ina is anxious and worries infinitely. Ina is creative, which she attributes to said anxiety. This is what she talks about here, now. How does anxiety make you more creative? How does creativity make you less anxious? And also Saturn, 80s music, the word “abracadabra” and you in the universe.

Juri Kimura

Juri Kimura is a 16-year-old girl who has lived in Tokyo, Japan for her whole life. She is passionate about spreading the things she has learned by being curious, as well as encouraging people to find hidden passions. Juri hated guns and feared them, after hearing all of the international headlines on gun violence. However, she decided to start rifling and learn more about guns before she made a judgment. Juri learned to turn her judgment and preconceptions into curiosity and learn more about the things she was initially afraid of. Through this talk, she encourages people to give things a listen before judging something based on preconceptions. Juri hopes to inspire others to be curious, with her story of rifling.

Kyler Caldwell

After a life-threatening medical crisis sent his life on a downward spiral, 15-year-old Kyler Caldwell discovered a mindset and approach that has allowed him to facilitate change to the benefit of himself and the people around him. Kyler has now formed a company using the mindset and approach with hopes to make beneficial changes on a larger scale.

Liam Kell

I am a Junior at ASIJ and I am extremely passionate about self-improvement for the ultimate goal of empowering others. I have played contact sports my entire life and I love being physical. I played rugby until high school, trained in Kyokushin Karate since age 4, and love wrestling. In February of 2019 I suddenly fell ill with Guillain-Barre syndrome, a potentially fatal disorder that results in paralysis. And although I have healed now, being unable to move my body during that period of time tore down my identity as an athlete and caused me to question much of my life. Through my ordeal I discovered three behaviours which gave me resilience and empowered me through sickness and paralysis. This is my main inspiration to empower others and give this talk, as I know what it is like to feel utterly powerless when confronted with the harsh realities of life.

Lisa Yamaguchi

Lisa is a junior at the American School in Japan. She is heavily involved in different service clubs at school and likes to work with kids. She highlights the reciprocated feeling of happiness you gain through community service and how that can enable us to enlarge the meaning of happiness.
