In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Catherine Sanderson

Professor Sanderson is the Manwell Family Professor of Life Sciences (Psychology) at Amherst. She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Stanford University, and went on to receive both masters and doctoral degrees in psychology from Princeton University. Her research has received grant funding from the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Health. She has also published over 25 journal articles and book chapters, in addition to multiple textbooks. Her latest trade book, The Positive Shift, examines how mindset influences happiness, health, and even how long we live. At Amherst, she teaches classes in a number of different areas of psychology. In her free time, she enjoys reading, watching reality TV dating shows, and walking her rescue dogs!

Haoran Tong

I'm Haoran Tong, a first-year student at Amherst College from Beijing, China. I started encountering poetry since very young, and much of my source of inspiration comes from news and artworks online. Besides poetry, I’m also an enthusiastic singer. Recently, I joined Concert Choir and Glee Club in Amherst Choral Society. I also enjoy photography, calligraphy, and soccer. My academic interest rests on the intersection of law, literature, and societal patterns.

Klara Moricz

My name is Klára Móricz and I am a professor of music at Amherst College. My research concerns music history, especially in the first half of the twentieth century. I have written two books, one on Jewish identities in twentieth-century music (University of California Press, 2008) and one on Russian composers and their experience of exile in interwar Paris (University of California press, forthcoming). I edited the score of Béla Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, for the Béla Bartók Complete Critical Edition (2018), and co-edited a volume of essays on the Russian composer Arthur Vincent Lourié (Oxford University Press, 2013). At Amherst I teach classes on music theory, including a seminar on the poetic interpretation of nineteenth-century music and on topics related to the history of classical music.
