Of the 2.5 million residents who make up the City of Toronto, half were born outside of Canada. With our third Salon, The Immigrant, we explore how the themes of identity, integration, assimilation, inclusion and exclusion manifest themselves in one of the most multi-racial, multi-cultural cities in the world.
The Immigrant will be held at one of the most innovative new community spaces in Toronto, the LIVE OPEN MARKET AT THE SCADDING COURT COMMUNITY CENTRE. Just opened as of June 17th, this colourful “pop up” market is part of an effort to revitalize and redefine the area, providing small, local vendors with commercial space and breathing new life into the neighbourhood.
In addition to the speakers listed, there will be special performances by: B-boys, Spoken Word Artist Ian Kamau and a TED "mash-up"courtesy of DJ JoonyaT and sets by Circle Research
A very big thank you to the lead sponsor of the TEDxToronto 2011 Salon Series – MY CITY LIVES. Thank you, thank you, thank you; we couldn’t do it without you.
