In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Christopher Jerry lost his beautiful two-year-old daughter, Emily, after a fatal medication error in March of 2006. Shortly after the tragic loss, he created a small non-profit foundation in her memory, to be an active part of the overall solution to preventable medical errors, through ongoing collaboration with healthcare facilities, clinicians, and experts in the various modalities of healthcare, on key issues relating to the improvement and reliability of patient and medication safety. Over the past decade, Chris has become a relentless patient safety and clinician advocate, who spreads a message of hope, forgiveness, compassion, and collaboration, by turning an unimaginable tragedy, into inspiring positive change, globally, in healthcare, in honor of Emily.
