Theme: 20/20 Political Divisions

The event will explore themes of political polarization, voter disenfranchisement, and the role of the media in the United States within the context of this year's upcoming elections. Our distinguished speakers are experts on some of the most salient issues affecting the country. Yael Bromberg is a constitutional lawyer specializing in litigation on behalf of youth voter rights and is Chief Counsel of Voting Rights at the Andrew Goodman Foundation. Erik Wemple is a media critic with the Washington Post who focuses on political rhetoric and the cable-news industry, and is a Hamilton alumnus.

Erik Wemple

Media critic at the Washington Post

Erik Wemple has been doing journalism for and about Washington for more than two decades. He started out covering export controls, with an emphasis on the Commerce Department’s long-since-renamed Bureau of Export Administration. But then he took a liking to local affairs, which turned into a position as the Loose Lips columnist for Washington City Paper. Then came a stint covering Washington for a New York-based, media-obsessed product of the Internet bubble (Inside.com, now defunct). After eight years as editor of City Paper and another year as editor of TBD.com, he landed at The Washington Post, where he reports and opines on media organizations of all sorts.

Yael Bromberg

Principal at Bromberg Law LLC and Of Counsel at Weissman & Mintz LLC

Yael Bromberg is a lawyer specializing in Constitutional Law and has done significant scholarship on youth voting and the 26th Amendment. She is currently a Principal at Bromberg Law LLC and Of Counsel at Weissman & Mintz LL and was a Legal Associate for Common Cause in Washington, D.C. She previously clerked with the Honorable Dickinson R. Debevoise in the United States District Court of New Jersey. Her prior positions include a Kinoy/Stavis Fellowship at the Rutgers Constitutional Litigation Clinic, and an Ella Baker Fellowship with the Center for Constitutional Rights. She was also a Supervising Attorney and Clinical Teaching Fellow at the Civil Rights Clinic's Voting Rights Institute at the Georgetown University Law Center.
