Dr Daniel Kilvington

Course Director - School of Cultural Studies & Humanities

Dr Daniel Kilvington specialises in teaching and research which explores ‘race’, sport and new media. He has published widely on the exclusion of British Asians within English professional football, the barriers affecting BAME football coaches, ‘whiteness’ among football fan communities, BAME perceptions of positive action strategies within football, and cyber-racism within football, basketball and ice hockey. Daniel is the co-founder of the annual Sport and Discrimination conference series and the founder of the inclusion initiative, Creating and Developing Coaches, an organisation which aims to encourage networking between BAME grassroots football coaches/managers and key stakeholders. Since 2016, Creating and Developing Coaches has worked with over 200 BAME coaches across the country and helped in some securing full-time employment. This strategy was adopted by the Zesh Rehman Foundation (ZRF) in 2019.

Dr Nasser Hussain

Senior Lecturer - School of Cultural Studies & Humanities

Dr Nasser Hussain has a variety of writing and research interests, revolving around contemporary poetry and poetics, embodiment and performance, and creative writing. In 2018, he published ‘SKY WRI TEI NGS’, a book of conceptual writing that composes poetry from IATA airport codes, combining the semantic, the poetic and the geographical. He is currently experimenting with constraint-based writing in various forms, including ‘Playing with Playing with Fire’ and ‘The Life of Form’, a project that consists of autobiographical poems about poets that have created specific form (the sestina, the pantoum etc), in the form that they created. He also researches the poetic appropriation and has a number of writing projects that seek to find and recuperate ‘lost’ fragments of language.

Dr Oliver Bray

Director of Arts - Leeds School of Arts

Oliver is the Director of Arts in the Leeds School of Arts and is well-respected for producing performance and live art work which seeks to always be genuinely innovative and edgy, while remaining unapologetically inclusive and watchable. His work has toured widely to various national and international festivals including; the Sibiu International Theatre festival in Romania, the In Between Time festival in Bristol and the National Review of Live Art in Glasgow. His current research interests stem from his professional practice in contemporary performance and live art but are inherently interdisciplinary in nature, they include methodologies of restriction and constraint, speechmaking, and the art of rhetoric.

Professor Jayne Raisborough

Professor of Media - School of Cultural Studies & Humanities

Professor Jayne Raisborough is an established researcher and author. She has diverse research ranging from ethical consumption to feminist theory and her current work focuses on stigma and social inequalities. She understands popular culture as sites where common-sense understandings about people and groups are reproduced in ways that legitimise social injustices. Jayne has a background in exploring stigma in relation to age and ageing; body size and more recently, poverty. She is currently examining the role of creative arts and theatre in destabilising harmful stereotypes.
