Theme: "The mother of all beginnings…The mother of all endings”

The Theme for the 2nd annual TEDxAlQudsUniversity is “The mother of all beginnings…The mother of all endings” Which is excerpted from Mahmoud Darwish’s “On this Land”, an iconic poem that pleasantly portrays Palestine.
We wanted our theme to strongly tie our speakers, audience and our country with its capital all together. This theme will provide the audience with an opportunity to view Palestine from new angles and get exposed to fresh standpoints. TEDxAlQudsUniversity, therefore, is a unique opportunity for members of the Palestinian community to share their ambitions for our collective future. Speakers will present their forward- thinking ideas and all participants will leave the conference inspired and empowered to effect positive change.

Canaan Ghoul

بدأ الشاب المقدسي كنعان الغول مشوار العزف بالعود وهو في سن الثامنة من عمره عندما التحق بالمعهد الوطني في القدس، ومؤخرا أطلق بمساعدة أصدقائه مشروع "اعزف في بيتك". يرى الغول أهمية تعلم الموسيقى، ويبدي استعداده لتعليم الموسيقى للراغبين في بيوتهم، ويأمل أن تدخل الموسيقى كل بيت فلسطيني، معتبرا أن الموسيقى خلقت للجميع بغض النظر عن العمر أو العرق أو الخلفية الاجتماعية. شارك الموسيقار الغول في العديد من المهرجانات والعروض المحلية والعالمية منها مهرجان الطرب في قدس العرب ومهرجان القدس التابع لمؤسسة يبوس الثقافي، لكنه يقول إن القدس تفتقر للفعاليات والعروض وإنتاج الموسيقى.

Dalal Abu Amneh

Neuroscientist & Singer

Dalal Abu Amneh is a neuroscientist, singer, producer and a mother of two, who from an early age undertook to develop her capacities in several very different spheres of life simultaneously, accepting challenges and persevering to develop her knowledge and abilities. Paving her extraordinary way to advance her scientific research, and her revitalisation of Palestinian musical heritage, have succeeded in a way that could not have been foretold. Being both an active neuroscientist and a famous singer didn't prevent her from building a successful family, as a dedicated mother for Loor and Hisham, and a wife to ophthalmologist, poet and producer, Dr. Anan Al-Abbasi.

معلمة فلسطينية، نشأت في مخيم من مخيمات العودة، كان لأطفالها نصيب أن يشهدو اطلاق النار على والدهم في طريق عودتهم من المدرسة. بعد هذا الحادث، وجدت الحافز للتعليم بأسلوب جديد: - من تجربتها كأم لاطفال متأثرين متضررين من العنف النفسي. - ومن وجودها بمكان يكاد لا يخلو من أعمال العنف. فرسمت لنفسها منهج خاص في التعليم، ليساعد الأطفال في تجاوز الصدمات التي يعيشونها كل يوم والتاني، واللي يكون لها أثر كبير على شخصيتهم وأسلوبهم واللي ممكن تدفعهم انهم يمارسوا العنف. حنان استحقت بجدارة بسبب منهجها التعليمي اللي حكت عنه في كتابها "نلعب ونتعلم"، جائزة "أفضل معلمة في العالم" لعام ٢٠١٦ اللي بتقدمها مؤسسة فاركي البريطانية.

Joman Natsheh

Neuroscientist & Physician

Dr. Joman Natsheh, a co-founder of the Palestinian Neuroscience Initiative; is currently a pediatric Neuroscience Fellow at Kessler Foundation and a research assistant professor at Rutgers University Medical School and an award-winning Neuroscientist and physician. Joman received multiple awards including Dr. Raniyah Ramadan Award for young Arab Neuroscientist, and Al- Ashwal Award for Outstanding Neuroscientists in the MENA region.

Khader Kiswani

"My life is my message" - Mahatma Ghandi هي المقولة التي يؤمن بها خضر كسواني، شب اجتماعي إنساني محب للحياة والمغامرة، خريج علم نفس فرعي علم اجتماع، مؤسس ومنسق للكثير من المجموعات التطوعية، مشارك مع العديد من المؤسسات. خضر تم تشخيصه بمرض التصلب المتعدد على عمر ال٢٣ حتى تبلش من بعده رحلة جديدة عنوانها المجهول ونصها الإيجابية والإيمان والطموح للتحدي وترك بصمة إيجابية بالعالم.

Mohammad Herzallah

Neuroscientist & Physician

Dr. Mohammad Herzallah, is a physician and a neuroscientist at Rutgers-Newark, whose work has been featured by the world’s leading journals; such as: Forbes and Nature. He is one of the “500 most powerful Arabs in the world” is Mohammad and he is also the founding director of the Palestinian Neuroscience Initiative (PNI) at Al-Quds University, which aims to create a powerhouse for neuroscience in Palestine and it surely is succeeding in establishing that!

Omar Yousef

Architect & Urban Planner

A Palestinian architect from Jerusalem teaches at Al-Quds University, and holds a PhD from the university of California. He worked in architect and was active in advocacy planning; taught at different universities and in summer 2015, he was at Cornell, USA. His work shows interest in design innovations, sustainability, green architecture and the politics of urban space amidst conflict. In his teaching, he encourages questioning, reinterpretation, and critical thinking as a university teacher. He works on cultural and musical projects, and he is a frequent speaker in conferences, seminars and workshops. He worn many architectural competitions, and in 2016 he was award-winner the Palestinian Prize for Architectural Distinction for the year 2016.

Wafa Aqel
