In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Afsaar Maniyar

Student

Afsaar and 3 of his friends, started Project IQ (Inner Quest) to spread the idea of the student's voice in his school. This was a completely student-led initiative and comprised of 9 extracurricular clubs that took sessions every Saturday. The objective of these clubs was to give students the chance to explore their interests outside academics and develop their skills. The team of 4 enlisted the help of other students in the school and had 20 student mentors to the clubs, along with 9 student observers. In total, they had about 120 student participants who regularly attended the sessions. After a successful first year, Afsaar is now working on converting Project IQ into a business plan so that he can spread this to other schools in Pune.

Anjali Shah

Founder and Chairman of PIFA

Anjali Shah knows how gender inequality in India can negatively affect young girls. She started PIFA Foundation for the Benefit of Sports in 2007 to empower young and underprivileged women through soccer. Today the Mumbai-based non-profit CEO has joined the executive committee of the All India Football Federation and is watching her players join some of the top teams in the country.

Founder and CEO of Fairtrunk

Darshana Gajare, Founder & CEO of Fairtrunk found her purpose in advocating Ethical Fashion and building an ecosystem to support this niche. A NIFT & LCF alumnus with an experience of over a decade in the Fashion industry, kickstarted her career as a designer and moved on to operations & marketing roles for leading organisations like Reliance Brands (Diesel India), Fynd & Times of India to name a few. She quit the comfort and security of a corporate well-paying job to realise the Entrepreneurial dream while campaigning for a cleaner and sustainable fashion industry. Alongside Fairtrunk, she is a core-team member of Fashion Revolution India, leading the movement from Mumbai.

Dr Rustom Soonawala

Gynaecologist

Dr Rustom Phiroze Soonawala is at present Senior Consultant and Head of Department of Gynaecology at the Breach Candy Hospital and Max Healthcare, Delhi. He has been awarded the civil award of a Padmashree in 1991. He has been responsible for bringing new cutting edge technology to India for the his field since years and has been training doctors for years in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal as well. He has an intra-uterine device, which he designed, named after him called the Soonawala IUD as well. He is the foremost gynaecologist in India and South Asia.

Rutika is a San Francisco based technology entrepreneur. Over her 9 years of professional experience, she has helped transform industries using cutting edge technology. Her most recent invention Scribe, an artificial intelligence powered sales representative, was acquired by Rippling. Prior to this, she builds multi-million dollar mobile games for companies in San Francisco, and consulted governments as well as large enterprises for McKinsey & Company. Rutika received her B.Tech and M.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
