In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Clarence Lin

Hello all, we are Clarence Lin and Enoch Toh and we are both freshmen this year. Inspired by personal experience, we will be giving a talk we that explores popular mantra "risk vs. reward", and how in a "perfect world", one must find a sense of balance between the two polar opposites. As I entered high school, I sought to take part in the many extra-curricular opportunities that were available, one of which was TEDx. Being in a position to speak in front of an audience fills me with excitement, and passion as I look forward to delivering a speech of personal accounts, school situations, and perhaps a bit of humor.

Eming Shyu

Hi! My name is Eming Shyu, and I am a sophomore here at TAS. In the past, I have spent time living in the U.S. and China before I moved here 3 years ago. For this year’s TEDx, I will be talking about the definitions and implications of being a “good student” in a perfect world, as viewed from different cultural perspectives. I’ll reference examples from our everyday lives as well as from my personal background in the discussion of my topic. Although a perfect world may not ever really exist, our endeavor to create it can and will get us infinitely close, which would probably be good enough for the world and for us.

From drama and theater to overseas speech tournaments, I enjoy taking part in various public speaking events. I made my decision to join TEDx out of pure curiosity, and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. However, as I began to immerse myself in the TEDx world, I discovered one fact about myself: Public speaking is my passion. I want to share my opinions with the world. I want to make an impact. And, I want to do it in the way I enjoy the most.

My name is Justin Zhou and I'm currently a senior at Taipei American School. As a Pokemon enthusiast and NBA fanatic, I am fascinated by how love influences our perceptions and opinions. Through my talk, I hope to share many anecdotes about the history of love and where love can take us.

Maggie Lee

Hi! My name is Maggie and I am a senior at Taipei American School. Born and raised in Taiwan, I have had the opportunity to work with rural Taiwanese children through years of volunteering. I have since broadened my efforts to regions outside of Taiwan, particularly in rural China. Given my passion for nutrition and rural development, it was exciting for me to further explore my interests as they relate to different cultures and areas of the world. I hope to raise awareness for such issues prevalent not only in China, but in Taiwan as well.

Samik Paryani

My name is Samik and I'm a junior at TAS. As I got news that this year's TEDx topic for TAS was "In a Perfect World", I was immediately interested in giving a speech regarding my take on a perfect world. My focus will be on the importance of the education, specifically primary years where a child's brain develops and one gains a first-hand perspective on the world. I hope my speech is received well and broadens the perspective of what should be introduced and taught to children from age six to eleven.
