Theme: Intertwined

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Anand Gopakumar

Anand Gopakumar, co-founder and CEO of The Apprentice Project (TAP), gives kids from lower income groups with a desire and dedication, an opportunity to express, learn and chase their dreams through a new innovative design by introducing the curriculum of choice-based learning to help kids acquire critical thinking, team spirit and a plethora of other life- skills. Through this exceptional venture, and unique thinking TAP strives to make a difference in this world by creating a space for children to discover their true potential and individuality, and pursue what they love, be it science, arts, drama or dance. Anand with his TAP team, having over 110 facilitators, are striving to create an equal tomorrow for everybody.

Dr. Padmini Ram

Dr.Padmini Ram is currently working as an Assistant Professor at Christ University. She is also the Principal Investigator of CLARE, an academic research collaboration between Christ and LabourNet. CLARE produces knowledge about the informal economy and the labour markets in India. As an Assistant professor, she mostly teaches Research Methodology, Economic History of India, Economic Sociology and Political Economy. Since Padmini Ram's work shows how she has earned experience in the field of policy research, academics as well as in industry she fits well with our theme.

Dr. Pamini Ram

Dr Padmini Ram is currently working as an Assistant Professor at Christ University. She is also the Principal Investigator for CLARE, an academic research collaboration between Christ and LabourNet that works on the informal economy and the labour markets in India. She holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and has considerable research experience in the field of public policy. She has taught postgraduate and undergraduate students at universities in India and abroad. She has over 16 years’ experience working on Public Policy at grassroots and international levels. Her experience includes working for MYRADA in Bangalore, working at the Department of Economic and Social Affairs at the United Nations in New York, with American Red Cross (Greater New York Chapter), among others. She has worked on several other issues relating to social policy - such as Affordable Housing, Disaster Response Management, Maternal and Infant Health, Education through Sports, ICT for Development, Watershed management, HIV-AIDS projects. Her research has been published in leading international peer-reviewed journals, such as Habitat International, Cities, and Environment and Urbanisation, Asia, as well as a book chapter in (Land Policies in India) published by Springer publications. She is currently writing a book on Informal Land and Housing Practices, published by Routledge, which is set to be forthcoming in 2020. Since Padmini Ram's work shows how she has earned experience in the field of policy research, academics as well as in industry, she fits well with our theme.

Dr. Swati Subodh

Dr Swati Subodh Dr. Swati Subodh is a scientist-social entrepreneur-columnist and artist. Swati is a scientist in the field of biotechnology and has led national and international projects with her group within CSIR. She has published widely and presented at reputed forums on her work in infectious disease biology. Her interest is in genomics which she pursues with passion in the hope of linking it with accessible & affordable healthcare. Swati is also part of a team that manages a philanthropic social innovation fund in healthcare. As a social entrepreneur she co-founded 1 Million for 1 Billion (1M1B), a social innovation and future skills initiative aligned to the UN SDGs with special consultative status to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications. 1M1B aims to support one million entrepreneurs to lift one billion people out of poverty. As a writer and columnist, Swati writes columns and articles for various magazines and newspapers. Her work on science, technology, startups and future of healthcare has been published in leading media platforms. She intertwines the fields of healthcare, social entrepreneurship and science.

Montri Manuval

Montry Manuel, an environmentalist and musician born and brought up at Cochin. Currently he is based in Austria. Montry had the love for music since his childhood. He was influenced by his father for all his creative ways of living and the love for music. He was trained by his guru Jerry Peter (Cochin) who instilled in him the love of drums. Also he worked in the field of advertising as a art director for about 10 years while pursuing music as a hobby till he decided to be a musician full-time. He was a founding member of the renowned Indian band “Swarathma” and was with them for seven years. They created 3 albums, many collaborative works and toured the country and the world extensively. Montry always been interested in experimenting and creating new sounds, so he started to ideate in creating music from FOUND OBJECTS in 2010. He separated from Swarathma and created the “idea” of Thaalavattam (local language of Kerala, India, it translates to “A Circle of Rhythm”) in 2011 in Bangalore (India).

Mukul Bhatia
