Theme: Transforming Tomorrow Through Today

A “tomorrow” is ultimately an accumulation of all the “todays” that we have had and that notion is empowering - for it means that we are tomorrow’s shaper and maker. In that spirit, we have invited an interesting array of speakers to provide their insights and ideas on what is, what can be and what will be.

Dr. Alea Fairchild is passionate about commercial marketing and innovation, and as an entrepreneur, has started several companies of her own. She loves working with start-ups and actively supports VCs in due diligence work. She also assist governmental institutions on technology policy issues.

Heather Rice

Neuroscientist

Heather Rice is a staff scientist at the VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research. She holds a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Oklahoma and a Ph.D. in Neurobiology from Harvard University. She will explain what a protein that causes Alzheimer’s disease is normally doing in the brain.

Henri Villebrun is the Strategy Manager of Proximus. Recently, he has been working on Customer Operations Strategic & Digital transformation, wherein he discovered that customer satisfaction will increase better if, and only if, the global way of working, mindset, and empowerment of the employee also increases in parallel

Johan Eyckmans

Campus Dean - KU Leuven FEB Brussels

Johan Eyckmans studied economics at the University of Antwerp and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. In 1997 he obtained a Ph.D. from the faculty of economics and business of KU Leuven on the incentives of nations to form international environmental agreements.

Lieven Buysse

Campus Dean

Lieven Buysse is Professor of Linguistics and British Culture at the Brussels Campus of KU Leuven, where he is also Campus Dean of the Faculty of Arts. He is regularly asked by Flemish media to analyse the political situation in the UK, which is what he will also do for his TEDx talk on Brexit.

Stef Adriaenssens

Professor of economic sociology

Stef Adriaenssens (KU Leuven, Brussels) lectures Economic Sociology, and is rapt with social rules and their (non-)compliance. He researches those aspects that cross-cut societal and economic phenomena. He recently investigated how low-skilled work and educational differences affect people’s distaste for homosexuality, and how this relationship does or does not change through time.
