In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Adam Fox

Adam is an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at St. Lawrence University. Along with his students, he studies learning and behavior in humans and non-humans, including choice and time perception in rat models of neuropsychological disorders. He earned a Ph.D. in Psychology with a specialization in Behavior Analysis from West Virginia University in 2013 before coming to St. Lawrence, where he teaches courses in the Experimental Analysis of Behavior and Applied Behavior Analysis. He is also a husband, father, farmer, runner, and bass guitar player.

Andy Chan

Andy Chan is a Product Manager at Infinia ML, an artificial intelligence company that builds custom algorithms and software for Fortune 500 companies. He currently leads the design, development, and execution of the company’s AI strategies. Prior to Infinia ML, Andy was a Senior Product Manager at Avalara and helped the company go public in June 2018. Andy graduated from St. Lawrence with Honors in Economics. After graduation, he moved to North Carolina and completed a M.S. in Analytics at Johns Hopkins University. He is currently located in Chapel Hill, NC and is pursuing his MBA at Duke University. Outside of work and school, he enjoys coaching youth soccer for NCFC and spending time with his two German Shepherds.

Brandon Moran

Brandon Moran is a senior at St. Lawrence University with a Government major, and a Chinese minor. He is a McNair and Presidential Diversity Scholar, and a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor's society. He has studied a semester abroad in Shanghai, China at East China Normal University ('17) and has performed several human rights and social justice poetry recitations. He enjoys running for the Cross Country and Track Teams, playing chess for the Chess Club and writing for the Hill News.

Caitlin Smith

Caitlin Smith is from Montgomery, Vermont and currently works in the field of coaching psychology. She graduated in 2016 and is passionate about marathon running and skiing. Caitlin also loves going to museums, and adventuring outside with her friends.

Karson Humiston

Karson Humiston is the Founder & CEO of Vangst, the cannabis industry's leading recruiting platform. Since launching in 2015, Vangst has connected more than 650 companies with over 10,000 candidates around the US & Canada. Karson was the first SLU alumni to be featured on the Forbes 30 under 30 list, in 2018. Prior to founding Vangst, Karson started On Track Adventures, a student run and owned travel organization, that organized many trips for SLU students. While at SLU, Karson majored in Government before graduating in 2015. Her hobbies include skiing, running, and hiking.

Kate Songer

Kate is a senior majoring in Conservation Biology, and minoring in Francophone studies. She hails from Shelburne, VT. Kate is a bog enthusiast, avid hiker, and knows most of the words to We Didn't Start the Fire by Billy Joel. Her biggest passion is preserving biodiversity.

Madeleine Frank

Madeleine is a senior from Rochester, New York majoring in Geology and English. She is involved in a wide range of activities outside of academics and school, everything from St. Lawrence's literary magazine to anthropology club to Guiding Eyes for the Blind. She loves dogs, laughing, and dogs that make her laugh. She spent a semester studying in New York City where she explored her love of being an independent individual and her love of musical theater. She is deeply passionate about every TV show she watches, every book she reads, and every boy band member she falls in love with.

Madelyn Lares

Maddie Lares is a senior at St. Lawrence University with majors in Sociology and Environmental Studies. She is a member of the Alpha Kappa Delta International Sociology Honor Society and the Gamma Sigma Alpha National Academic Greek Honor Society, and prides herself in her newfound ability to knit. From Bismarck, North Dakota, Maddie is interested in indigenous public administration as well as environmental law. In addition to studying abroad in Iceland in 2017 with a focus on sustainable energy, Maddie has conducted field research in Alaska in 2018 to assess the effects of climate change on the loss of language and cultural institutions among the native people. She hopes to continue her researching to spread awareness concerning indigenous issues.

Megan Carpenter

Megan Carpenter is a social psychologist and Assistant Professor of Psychology at St. Lawrence University (SLU). Originally from Kailua, Hawaii, this is Megan's first year in the North Country and at SLU. She teaches courses on Introductory Psychology, Psychology of Gender, and Human Sexuality. Along this vein her research also centers around gender and sexuality, including the various contextual factors that influence interest in casual sex, experiences with and expressions of sexual fluidity, and adherence to gender norms.

Paul Doty

After twenty years and a variety of responsibilities at the St. Lawrence University Libraries, Paul picked up with Special Collections and Archives in January of 2018. It appears one’s mid-fifties are as good a time for a change as any. The opportunity to have a chance to delve into everything that is iconic and inspirational in books and manuscripts was the motivation for the change. Along the way at St. Lawrence Paul has taught a variety of courses in St. Lawrence’s First Year Program, worked with students to build a couple of canoes, and answered a lot of research inquiries. He has published poems or essays in publications like the Mississippi Review, the Cortland Review, the Great Lakes Review,Poetry Pacific, the Reference Librarian, and has an essay forthcoming in Journal of Interlibrary Loan, Document Delivery & Electronic Reserve. He lives in Canton New York with his wife Agnes, who is the manager of the Rensselaer Falls and Morley branches of the Canton Free Library, and his youngest daughter Margaret. Agnes and Paul have three other adult children, Anna, Emerson, and Gillan.
