Latin for ‘blank slate’, Tabula Rasa is an epistemological theory on how humans are born without built-in mental content, and therefore all knowledge comes from experience or perceptions, and as we live, we create knowledge, meaning and purpose to our lives.
So, most people believe that the knowledge we have is always based on or influenced by some other existing knowledge. And such an influence may have positive or negative effects on the reliability of the knowledge we produce. Hence it is important for us to examine or reflect on the knowledge production process. It is worthwhile to question whether we truly begin at tabula rasa and whether we produce knowledge on a clean slate.
