Amber Danks

(BSc) International Relations and Diplomacy, with Marketing (BA)

I’m a third year student of BSc (Hons) International Relations & Diplomacy, with Marketing. (Course representative Y1, Y2, Y3 and former President of Derby University’s RepNet Society - a society to connect the 700 elected course representatives across the University. I was also student representative on the Psychology Peer Review 2017 and Academic Societies Councillor 2017). I was invited to attend TEDxTeenLondon2014RemarkableDisruptors and was a ThinkTank award winner at the event for my idea to implement TEDTalks into schools across the UK. My life goal is to swim the Atlantic Ocean - all 3572 miles of it! Cycle Europe and Run across America (RAM) and do it for a good cause to unite people.

Ian Turner

Science Academic

Dr. Turner is an Associate Professor in the Centre of Excellence in Learning and Teaching at the University of Derby. Ian has worked at the University for 13 years and teaches forensic science, genetics and science communication. Ian was named as a National Teaching Fellow in 2014 and the Royal Society of Biology Higher Education Lecturer of the year in 2017. Ian is known for a colourful form of teaching called lecture theatre ‘pantomime’ and has research interests in the areas of creative and innovative learning, teaching & assessment and gamification.

Joshua Tan

Postgraduate Student + Adult Third Culture Kid

Josh is a Third Culture Kid (TCK) with a passion for art and communication. A former professional event emcee, art facilitator and graphic designer, he was born in Singapore but raised across Southeast Asia. Josh is currently pursuing an MA Art Therapy in the United Kingdom.

Melanie Pope

Associate Professor of Learning and Teaching

Melanie has worked as a teacher, lecturer or staff developer for 26 years. She has taught in a wide range of schools, colleges and universities and just loves being involved with learning in any and every way. She believes in the power of education to transform the lives of both individuals and societies, and is passionate about enabling education for all. Melanie’s interests are in writing and the development of writers, from children to adults, and she is fascinated by what motivates and drives people to learn. She also loves keeping bees and chickens, and is a self-professed bee-geek. Her ambition is to finish writing her own novel and to write more poetry.

Peter Lennox

Senior Lecturer in Perception

Dr. Peter Lennox is a scientist and lecturer in spatial perception and psychoacoustics in the College of Arts (formerly in the School of Technology) and is a passionate student of the intricacies, paradoxes, extraordinary capacities and ridiculous failings of human perception. Perception is simply the most complex set of processes and extraordinary occurrence in the known universe. Using perception to study perception is a bootstrap operation at best, and a wild goose chase at worst.
