In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Her non-traditional journey to the Hilltop brought an underlying struggle with mental illness to the surface as she works to actively destigmatize mental illness and speak about the value of human connection.

Daniela was born and raised in Mexico City, where she learned the importance of being an active part of society in order to catalyze change. She’s devoted her career to fostering strong leadership in social innovation, which is critical to sustainable development and transformation. Global Health Corps (GHC), which mobilizes the movement for health equity by building the next generation of health leaders. Since 2009, GHC has placed and developed creative young professionals from diverse backgrounds into high-impact health positions in Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the United States, and Zambia.

Despite struggles with homelessness, abuse, and a fight for financial independence at the age of 15, Joubert devotes his life to the pursuit of joy. He has crafted a lifestyle that is both fulfilling and productive, and hopes to teach us all how to ignite ourselves with positivity.

Imam Hendi

Muslim Chaplain

A sought-after speaker, Imam Hendi has presented a multitude of interfaith and general lectures in the USA, Asia, Africa, Europe, central Asia, Eastern Europe, Australia, and the Middle East over the past 10 years, and he has been to more than 63 countries and 45 US states for conferences. Mr. Hendi was one of the Muslim leaders who met with President Clinton during his presidency. He also met with President Bush in the aftermath of the September 11th tragedy and continued to meet him many times during his presidency.

In addition to being a student on the hilltop and a Community Scholar, Jerome is also a motivational speaker, youth influencer, and author from Charleston, SC. He is the founder and CEO of SmallTalk LLC, a youth speaker's bureau dedicated to the missions of motivating youth, empowering educators, and connecting students and teachers through storytelling.

Joosje Lupa

College (2019)

Inspired by her family, Lupa seeks to challenge issues faced by people on the autistic spectrum. Through a reflection of her brother's struggle with autism, she wants to ignite her audience members with excitement about their opportunities and insists that we all have the right to make a life for ourselves.

Kendell Long

College (2019)

Long considers himself a community project. Traditions of storytelling and oral histories from his youth have caused him to take on a larger responsibility to a legacy that connects back to the African diaspora. Long seeks to ignite a long-term commitment to expanding attitudes of inclusion and diversity.

Matthew Park

College (2019)

Too often, we smother out our own fires - be it our passions or beliefs - because we fear they stray too far from the status quo. Park will show us that if we can admire not just others, but also ourselves for daring to actively pursue our passions, then we'll find success. Not all things have to be refined or fit a certain mold to be considered complete. Perhaps, our jagged edges are the cornerstone of our personal successes.

Robert Bies

Professor of Management, McDonough School of Business Founder and First Academic Director, Executive Master's in Leadership Program

Bies is currently working on research that focuses on leadership, the delivery of bad news, organizational justice, and revenge and forgiveness in the workplace. He has over 80 publications in these fields and has co-authored the book Getting Even: The Truth About Workplace Revenge -- And How to Stop It.

Tiffany Yu

Founder and CEO, Diversability Founder, Awesome Foundation Disability Chapter

As a senior at Georgetown in 2009, Yu noticed that disability was missing from conversations about diversity. As such, she started Diversability, a movement committed to raising disability awareness and reshaping conceptions of ability. Yu also works with Lime Connect, the Disability Interest Forum at Goldman Sachs, and B-ABLE at Bloomberg. Yu is determined to show the world that people with disabilities are more than just "people with disabilities." Garcia is no novice to love; he's been in a relationship for eight years. He understands the temptation to close oneself off from emotions and intimacy, but he wants to inspire us all to make ourselves vulnerable, to allow ourselves to love and be loved.
