Jumeirah College's third TEDx event revolves around 'Choices', a decision made now that will determine our future. Choices shape us and the path we take. And this time, we've invited our teachers on to the stage!

Adam Al Hashemi

Student

Adam is someone who is constantly intrigued by the systems and structures that have helped shape our governments, countries, and leaders, and how they influence and affect our society in the modern world. Through his extensive listening to podcasts, watching videos, reading articles and books, and generally spending a lot of time on the internet, it seems completely rational that he has entirely lost faith in the infuriating mess that makes up said governments, countries, and leaders. He has a broad range of interests, from animals, to music, philosophy, sport, film and science. As a student in Year 12, Adam is currently studying Biology, Physics and Maths at A Level, hopefully going on to study Biology or Engineering at university, and perhaps even go on to make some positive change in the world.

David Kilpatrick

History teacher at Jumeirah College, Mr. Kilpatrick (or Mr. KP as all the students call him) will share what Lego, Fortnite and rollercoasters have to do with choice.

Jake Dibden

Student

Jake is a Jumeirah College student of 5 years, and will sit GCSEs in History, Economics, Drama and Spanish at the end of this year. In his freetime he enjoys discussing those subjects in every format possible, but mostly debate. Jake grew up in Rochdale, one of the worst, recession hit towns in the UK and as a result, knows a thing or two about the effects of amoral investment, but also understands how investing is an unavoidable fact of life. That's why, he will be talking about the choices we make when we invest.

Kelly Storey

Head of the History and Government and Politics department at Jumeirah College, Ms. Storey will be sharing what happens when there is no choice.

My recipe for life is balance: a barrel of smiles, a glass of religion, one cup of academics, one cup of sports, two pounds of simplicity, and a bag of modesty. All of these ingredients stirred with sprinkles of positivity and a dash of humour, to make me successful and more importantly, happy.

Namisha Batheja

Student

A Year 7 student at Jumeirah College, Namisha Batheja, may be one of the youngest at school but strongly believes that "good things come in small packages". Born in Hong Kong, Chinese by nationality, raised in Dubai and an Indian at heart, Namisha holds within herself the rich knowledge of different cultures. A gold medalist in gymnastics and a belt away from black in karate, Namisha also has a keen interest in debating and public speaking. She aspires to become a psychologist with the dream of inventing a machine that can read the human mind.

Yash Ramchandani

Student

Yash Ramchandani is a year 13 student who studies Economics, Maths and Computer Science. He is currently programming an AI for his coursework and he believes everyone should be fluent in at least one coding language as it is now becoming as crucial as learning any other language. Yash runs the Trading and Stocks society at his school and enjoys playing football and basketball. He has slowly come into being confident through attending a toastmasters club and participating at MUN conferences in his free time and would like to show off his newfound confidence in front of a large audience. In the future he is looking at a career in computer science and business and his life goal is to start a tech company.
