What is it that makes something to be beautiful? Since the beginnings of culture, the concept of beauty has been with us all along our history. It is true that we can apply the concept of beauty to almost everything in our lives; the definition of beauty is always changing and it has been like that since always. Socrates used to ask himself: What makes something beautiful?
Different thinkers and different cosmovisions had asked themselves and debated about this questions, but there is something that has been always related with beauty: art. We see beauty in many different things, like natural landscapes and objects created by nature, but we also see beauty in many sculptures, buildings, paints, songs and many other things, all created by humans. Many people believe that the ability to create art is what makes us different from robots and animals, because nobody can create such beautiful things to our eyes like us. However, how do we decide that something is beautiful? If we go to an art gallery, we will probably see many things that will caught our attention, but also many others that might not. Maybe, we should ask ourselves if beauty is in the eyes of the observer, delimited by our own cosmovision, or if is there anything else that might define beauty.
In this opportunity, using TED Talks as a catalyst, we will try to appreciate these concepts with different points of view, and showing our opinions about them, talking and thinking how art can be used to show different realities and allows us to influence others' thoughts.
We will ponder over how much art and beauty influence our lives and the way we see the world. Beauty is a + to art, that allows us to be amused by something created by the man.
