Theme: Generation Z

thee human race is constantly evolving. Technology is improving, society is changing, and the future of our planet is in the hands of the current generation, the youth, the "Generation Z".
We have access to a wave of information from so many different sources all at our fingertips. Our world is so interconnected, with social media giving us access to people from across the globe, and online services growing at an immense rate.
With this fast paced technological society it is important, more now than ever, for the next generation to be able to know how to use the ocean of resources to succeed in life.
Though this information is unlimited, ideas are limited. We, the TEDxYouth@OFS team, strongly believe that one tiny idea can change someone's life for ever. It is our mission to share the correct ideas for a better future for all of us.
We will be exploring ideas from various fields such as science and technology, innovation, humanities, leadership, the arts - anything different or original, that can help nurture and grow a young mind.

Amardeep Singh

Author + Film Maker

Amardeep Singh, lives in Singapore. Schooled at The Doon School, he pursued Electronics Engineering at Manipal Institute of Technology and Masters in India and Business Administration at the University of Chicago. He worked for twenty-five years in the corporate sector and was the Asia Pacific Regional Head for Revenue Management at American Express. He has dedicated the last four years in research and documentation of the remnants of the Sikh legacy in Pakistan which were abandoned during the partition of India in 1947. He has authored two books, entitled, ‘LOST HERITAGE The Sikh Legacy in Pakistan’ and ‘THE QUEST CONTINUES: LOST HERITAGE The Sikh Legacy in Pakistan’. His efforts are now directed towards documentary film making for posterity.

Aurelie Saada

Risk Management Professional

Aurelie Saada is a risk professional who currently works at Credit Suisse, in charge of assessing and mitigating risks related to New Business and New Projects for 18 countries in APAC. She accumulates 13 years of experience in risk, audit and compliance, both in banking and in insurance and promotes risk management and ethics as key tools to ensure sustainability in an organization. She also strongly believes in developing a risk culture within our own personal life, where using critical thinking in our key moments or decisions helps to achieve our own strategic goals. Aurelie is also fervent supporter of women professional development and leadership. She’s the current President for PrimeTime Business and Professional Women's Association, which vision is to help professional women to achieve their highest potential through training, network and events.

Jolyon Caplin

Senior Lecturer + Busker + Engineer

Jolyon is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Singapore Polytechnic. He is also the chairman of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (Singapore Network). With a big funny bone, and his busking skills, Mr Caplin uses a comedic approach with easy analogies to teach science, and give us confidence to plunge into our own experimentation

Magdalena Poulin

Head of Diversity & Inclusion for APAC

Magdalena Poulin has over 13 years of diversified and multinational work experience in Asia and Europe. Currently based at AIG, she oversees the strategy and implementation of diversity & inclusion programs for the APAC region. Magdalena’s purpose is to create systemic change in the corporate environment around inclusion and bias, to bridge differences across cultures and generations and to educate others about the contemporary inclusive leadership. She also designs and runs programs for local non-profit organisations and was awarded a Community Service Award for her partnership with Special Olympics Ireland, and a Diversity Award from the EMC Office of Global Workforce Inclusion for her leadership and achievements in the Women Leadership Forum. Magdalena was also listed as one of the Asia Pacific Inclusion Champions 2017 in the Diversity & Inclusion Forum by the BD Foundation for promoting the values of inclusion in the region.

Rubab Khan

Student

She is our super active student who keeps herself busy, round the clock. She has done her schooling in Pakistan, France, and Singapore. She has been a regular participant of MUN and has been honored to serve as chair during MUNOFS 2018. She plans to pursue her dreams in the field of economics despite having the pressure of becoming an engineer…..”meri laeeq beti bari ho k engineer banay gi”.. I am sure few of her friends will understand that. She loves arts and sometimes builds her pocket money by selling her artwork. She likes to do gymnastics and running when she is not studying. She feels that she is lucky to have figured out a few basic keys on how to buckle tight during this rollercoaster of a ride called IB. She believes in multiplying positive energies by sharing the best practices. Therefore, she will enlighten other IB students and “to be” IB students about the discoveries of her keys to avoid “The Horrors of High School.”

Veerappan Swaminathan

Maker + Entrepreneur + Engineer

Veera is a graduate from National University Singapore (NUS) BEng (Honors), Mechanical Engineering. He is the founder and director of Sustainable Living Lab Pte Ltd and Makedemy Pte Ltd. He has keen interest in addressing sustainability challenges using futures thinking, community development and technology. As a pioneer of the Maker Movement in Singapore, he is working to steer the movement in Asia towards enabling a sustainable future. He was recently awarded the Joseph Jaworski Next Generation Foresight Asia Special Award and represented Singapore at its UN SDG voluntary national review. He is also an INK and YSEALI fellow. He sits on the Lotus-NUS Fund panel which awards S$125K annually to local social enterprises.

Yubil Das

Student

Yubil Das was born in India and has spent her life in China, Hong Kong and Singapore. She is 16 years old and has been in love with singing and performing ever since she was a little girl. Having been apart of various musicals and plays, she has always been comfortable with being on a platform to express herself. Yubil’s family has always been involved in serving the community through charity and so she has been involved in different types of social work from a young age. She looks forward to opportunities to serve others. She has been awarded with the humanitarian award and community commitment award for her efforts. Yubil is currently working in her city in India and trying to raise awareness about the problems faced by the urban poor.
