Theme: Human Behavior

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Anjimile is a first-generation Malawian-American raised in Texas. Their experiences with racism, homophobia, and xenophobia in the deep south and beyond have helped to form the basis of their radical queer politics. A staple in the Boston indie music scene since their debut EP 'In the Garden' in 2012, Anjimile's eclectic forays into ambient folk, indie rock, and electro-pop are bound together by an incredibly haunting and otherworldly singing voice. The essence of their musical output is a gooey center of warmth and tenderness informed by the power of their intersectional identities.

David Rand

Cognitive Scientist

David Rand is Associate Professor at MIT Sloan School of Management, the Director of the Human Cooperation Laboratory and the Applied Cooperation Team at MIT, and an affiliated faculty member of the MIT Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences and MIT Institute of Data, Systems, and Society. He uses a cognitive science perspective, grounded in the tension between more intuitive versus deliberative modes of decision-making, to explore topics such as cooperation, outrage, misinformation, political preferences, and social media platform behavior.

Laura Gee

Behavioral Economist

Laura Gee is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Tufts University. Her research is in behavioral economics, with a particular focus on how individual decision-making is influenced by group dynamics. Her studies rely on both lab and field experiments, as well as observational data. She has published articles in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Labor Economics, the Journal of Public Economics, Management Science, and Experimental Economics. Her research has also been written about in the popular press in outlets such as CBS News, Fast Company, and Forbes.
