Theme: Are We There Yet?

From the rise of drones to the exposure to bitcoins, Ghana is on the verge of mastering the art as a game changer in Sub Saharan Africa and in the world. The 4th Industrial revolution is impending imminently, Are We There Yet? Are we at a point when we can say bring it on? How can individuals and group develop a we-thinking approach to absorb the cultural shock and surprises associated with the rise of AI and Machine Learning?

How do these changes affect our psyche as active global citizens in the 21st century? The intriguing discussions will enlighten participants to appreciate and discern the various thoughts surrounding key developmental indicators in Ghana and the rest of Africa.

Bernard Akoi-Jackson. Ph.D

Contemporary Artist/Curator

His multi-disciplinary, audience implicating installations and performative “pseudo-rituals”, has featured in exhibitions like An Age of Our Own Making (Reflection II), in Museet for Samtidskunst, Roskilde, Denmark, (June 2016); Silence Between The Lines in Kumasi (2015), Material Effects, Eli and Edythe Broad Museum. MSU, East Lansing, USA (November 2015), WATA don PASS: Looking West CCA, Lagos and Lillith Performance Studio, Malmö, Sweden (May 2015) and Time, Trade and Travel, Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam and Nubuke Foundation, East Legon, Accra, Ghana (August – October 2012 and November 2012 – February 2013). Akoi-Jackson holds a Ph.D. in Painting and Sculpture from the College of Art and Built Environment, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi where he lectures with a particular interest in disruption and the revolutionary potential in contemporary art practice.

Emmanuel Appiah

Ethical Hacker and Hardware Engineer

Emmanuel did his first major hack on one of the major telecommunications in Ghana using simple telephone hardware, sewing needles, and few hacking skills at age 14. His curiosity in telecommunications grew even bigger as he read books from his uncle who worked as an Electrical Engineer graduate for a telecommunication company in Ghana. Emmanuel would later on be assigned cleaning the computer room during senior high school as a punishment for not taking on sophomores’ duties for one year. In a year’s time, Emmanuel would be elected into office as the senior prefect and student representative council (SRC) president in senior high whiles part of the red cross and science club.

Foster Akugiri

Incubator Manager, Business Analyst

Foster Awintiti Akugri is the Founder & President of the Hacklab Foundation. He is currently the Incubator Manager for the Stanbic Bank Incubator Ghana (SBIncubator Ghana), an initiative of Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited, a member of the Standard Bank Group where he also serves as a Business Analyst on the Digital Transformation team. He was the youngest participant at the World Economic Forum’s 48th Annual Meeting, Davos, Switzerland in 2018. He also serves as a member of the Malaika Coalition, a committee mandated by the Africa Regional Strategy Group of the World Economic Forum to work on the Africa 4.0 Initiative. He was listed among 30 under 30 Future of Ghana Pioneers Class of 2019.

Francisca Ampratwum

Pharmacist, Healthy Lifestyle Advocate

Francisca Ampratwum, a Registered Pharmacist for over twelve years, founded Perfect Health Ghana in 2010 to educate Ghanaians on the power of nutrition and lifestyle medicine to prevent chronic non-communicable diseases. She is certified by the American Fitness Professionals and Associates as a Nutrition and Wellness Consultant and is a Certified Health Coach by the Health Coach University (USA). She is a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana. Francisca’s company, Perfect Health Ghana, has been consistently yielding results for clients in areas of weight loss, nutritional coaching for chronic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol.

Ibrahim Mahama

Contemporary Artist/Humanitarian

He is inspired by Failure and delay through specific forms always inform his choice of sites which believe the works do not only occupy but are also occupied within the works/objects. Residues and points of chaos registered as marks within the forms he selects, they present us alternative perspectives of looking into the materials/Labour conditions of society. Form is important. His work has included objects from jute sacks used to transport commodities to the point of decay and later sewn together with a network of collaborators under specific Labour conditions which is then superimposed on architecture. His work has been included in the 56 and 57 Venice Biennale, Documenta 14 Athens and Kassel, Orderly Disorderly, Accra, Images An Age of Our Own Making, Denmark, the island is what the sea surrounds, Valletta 18, Malta and Spectacles Expectations, Kumasi Ghana and Labour of Many at the Norval Foundation, Cape Town. He finished a year residency with the DAAD in Berlin in 2018.
