TEDxYouth@BrookhouseSchool this year will mark seven great years of giving the youth in Nairobi a platform to share their ideas worth spreading. The event will bring together innovative high school students and adults to listen and share ideas on breaking barriers in our community.

We have a line up speakers and performers who will inspire our audience and get them thinking deeper of how they can bring change as well as put into action their great ideas.

Alexa Ouma

Alexa is an Year 11 student Brookhouse, sitting IGCSE exams in May/June 2019.She aspires to attend a science oriented university, preferably MIT. Alexa mission is to inspire the youth to be able to go out and conquer their dreams and hopes.

Ayeyi Asamoah-Manu

15 years old Ayeyi is in Year 11 at Brookhouse School. He is currently doing his IGCSEs. He views himself as a lover of the arts- albeit music, art or drama. You will always find him either on the stage as part of the school production, in an exhibition showcasing his work or simply behind his saxophone wherehe spends most of his spare time doing what he calls 'exhausting his lungs'. Having moved schools as well as countries, he has noticed the differences between being regarded as a local and as a foreigner, and through this experience,he would like to use his talk to inspire the world to accept their neighbours irrespective of their backgrounds.Hedreams of changing the world each day, and be a part of a revolutionizing movement. His TEdx talk is entitled 'Foreigner'.

Dhruvi is 13 years old and in Year 9. She has been a student at Brookhouse School for 7 years. She was inspired to speak about the girl child in memory of my grandmother who was not able to get a formal education.

Fatma is i6 years old and a Student in the IB DIPLOMA programme taking Biology, Chemistry and Psychology at Higher level & English, Mathematics and Swahili and Standard level.

Kayla is very patinate about helping other people and providing services and just making people smile brings joy to my world.She adores dancing, acting and singing. Kayla loves animals, especially dolphins and she's been longing for a dog. "I am yet to descover what the future holds for me and what path I am destined to take but i know that I am here for a reason and that reason is yet to be discovered".

Leroy is a social entrepreneur, inquisitive learner, innovator and prober. He co-founded Greenpact, a social enterprise with his high school friends from Kenya in 2013, offering clean renewable Biogas solutions to institutions and homes in Kenya. His work with Greenpact has been featured in CNN, Upworthy, Grist, Huffington Post, Forbes, Fast Company and national media houses in Kenya. His calling to avail a similar platform—of design thinking—available to him as at founding Greenpact, led him to founding CampBuni, a conscious social enterprise that offers Human Centered Design

Pinky Ghelani is a a renowned media personality in Kenya. She is also UNHCR and Wanfam Clothing Ambassador.

Siddharth Chatterjee

Humanitarian and development profession
Siddharth Chatterjee is the United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident. As the United Nations Resident Coordinator he coordinates the work of 27 UN agencies in Kenya. He also works with the government and the people of Kenya to ensure the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Sid is a Reuters+HuffPost Contributor, Feminist, Humanitarian, ½ Marathoner and Special Forces Veteran. Sid is a TEDx speaker having spoken on ‘Demobilizing Child Soldiers’ in Bilbao, Spain. He explores how the African continent is managing its youth and how they can be equipped and empowered to shape the future of our continent.

Smit Sanghrajka

Business Development Manager
Smit Sanghrajka is a graduate student from Florida Institute of Technology with his bachelors in mechanical engineering. Smit has served as the Vice President of international students and scholar services during his time at Florida Tech amongst various other positions in the student government. During his senior year he engaged in a humanitarian outreach project that created a water barrel that filters water as you roll it from your water source to your home using filters made from readily available raw materials in the home country. This project was designed for low income household families and developing nations. Smit is on a mission to educate and inspire youth and local entrepreneurs around Africa to adapt to what he calls the “The Next Industrial Revolution.”

Tamara Bong’o

Student
Tamara is 15 years old at Brookhouse School. She is currently in Year 11. She is about passionatesinging, painting and dancing and aspires to be an engineer. Tamara's talk is entitle 'The Reality of Self Acceptance'

Trevor Kibet currently works with the European Institute of Peace as a Program Assistant for the Horn of Africa Program.
