In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Abhay Liginlal

Hi! My name is Abhay Liginlal and I am a sophomore from ASD. I am very passionate about public speaking and it has always been a dream of mine to perform at a TED event. I am very excited for what this experience can bring to my high school career and, conversely, how I can impact others lives through my words.

Griffin Stotland

My name is Griffin Stotland. I was born and raised in Vermont, but I am now on my 5th and final year living in Qatar. My interests include tech, geography, vexillology and New England sports teams. I look forward to speaking at TEDxAmericanSchoolofDoha in December.

Layla Williams

My name is Layla Williams. I am a sophomore in high school, this is my second year at ASD, and I enjoy acting and art. When I moved here from Hawaii, I wasn’t quite aware of all the opportunities ASD had to offer, but I’m glad I have been given the opportunity to speak at a TEDx event here at ASD. I will use my diverse experiences from the world around to share my ideas about Shaping the Future.

Nirjhar Deb

My name is Nirjhar Deb, and I am a sophomore at ASD, where I have been studying since kindergarten. I was born in the US, my roots lie in India, and I live in Qatar. I am passionate about global issues, and I am truly excited for this opportunity to present the topic of ‘Microfinance to Beat the Cycle of Poverty’ as a speaker in this year’s TEDx event. I also enjoy exploring the underwater world, writing computer programs, and – of course – playing videogames!

Tom Hawkins

I am Dr. Tom Hawkins, proud Director of the American School of Doha since August 2015. My educational journey began in Minnesota and has included stops in Norway, Turkey, China, Belgium and Qatar. With over 30 years of American and International educational experience, in public and private (for-profit and not-for-profit) schools and consultancy, I have come to believe that unless we shape the future of our world, especially our educational world, we will be required to react to the world around us rather than being proactive in helping students become "positive, active, global citizens." I began exploring the future of education specifically while in Beijing during a time of incredible growth in international schools and the evolution of "educational entrepreneur-ism" as I call it. I look forward to sharing my perspective on how we can shape the future of education, and by extension our world, in the upcoming TedxTalk.
