In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Lisa Nielson

Dr. Nielson is a historical musicologist specializing in gender, slavery and music in the early Islamicate courts. She is one of two Anisfield-Wolf SAGES Fellows and the Director of the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women. Her classes focus on the mission of the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards of understanding human difference and include a class on the courtesan, gender segregation and the harem, comparative slavery, and a class dedicated solely to the Anisfield-Wolf book awards. Dr. Nielson has received several undergraduate teaching awards including the Richard A. Bloom, MD Award for Distinguished Teaching in the SAGES Program, the Carl F. Wittke Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, the J. Bruce Jackson, MD, Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Mentoring and the Faculty Prism Award.

Lloyd Weema

Lloyd Weema is a humanitarian, teacher, athlete, actor and adventurer. A graduate of Case Western Reserve University, he has worked as a teacher for Reed College and the former Cleveland Health Museum, been an athlete in multiple professional sports and currently holds over twenty world records. Lloyd is also a current member of the CWRU Alumni Board of Directors. He will be talking about the pursuit of awe and wonder hidden within ourselves.

Oghenerukeme Asagba

Oghenerukeme Asagba was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. She obtained her Bachelor's degree from Cornell University and a Masters in Medical Physiology from Case Western Reserve University. Thus far, Ruke has conducted research on the feasibility of implementing the National Health Research Act of Zambia and worked on a clinical study aimed at improving the quality of life of breast cancer survivors through exercise. She currently serves as the International Director of Ligandcorp, a medical start-up company aimed at developing and promoting innovative medical devices that will introduce lasting health solutions in Africa and other developing nations. Her passion for education and healthcare is intense, which is why at the age of 21 she founded Catering to Africans In Need (CAIN), a non-profit organization aimed at improving the quality of education and healthcare received by the less privileged in impoverished African societies.
