Focused on the theme “Imagine!”, TEDxMahtomedi 2018 brought together Mahtomedi area leaders, civic groups, friends and neighbors to share ideas on shaping a bright future for ourselves, our community and our world.

Adam Moen

Adam Moen is founder and principal at Real EmPowerment Solutions, a healthcare startup and strategy consulting firm (repsolutions.co). He also is founder of Marblesapp, which offers free, 24/7 mental and emotional health support. His personal experiences with depression, mental health, and peer support have led him to evaluate how our society defines mental health, connection, and ourselves. He wants to lower the barrier to accessing meaningful connection, use social media for good, and bring forth the best ways to empower people through digital and in- person experiences.

David Horsager

David Horsager, MA, CSP, CPAE, is CEO of Trust Edge Leadership Institute and a global authority on helping leaders and organizations become the most trusted in their industry. He is inventor of The Enterprise Trust Index, director of the annual study The Trust Outlook, and national bestselling author of The Trust Edge: How Top Leaders Gain Faster Results, Deeper Relationships, and a Stronger Bottom Line. With clients ranging from Fortune 100 companies to professional sports teams and global governments, David has taken the platform across the United States and on six continents.

Jack Becker

Jack Becker is a public artist, administrator, and consultant. He founded Forecast in 1978 and now directs Forecast’s Consulting and Creative Services program. He has organized dozens of exhibitions, publications, and creative events, and is the founder of Public Art Review. Jack received a BFA degree from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and studied at Washington University, Webster University, and the Croydon College of Art and Design. He is recipient of the Public Art Network Award of Excellence from Americans for the Arts and a lifetime achievement award from the College Art Association.

Jon Kamrath

As a child, Jon Kamrath dreamed of creating large outdoor sculptures that took people’s breath away. He studied art and art education and landed the greatest job ever: art teacher. After teaching for over a decade, Jon took a “short break” from his dream job to focus on his own artistic vision. Years later, he is living out his childhood fantasy sculpting large-scale outdoor works for cities, universities, corporations, and private collectors. He lives in Mahtomedi with his muse and their three young children and is thrilled anytime he hears about the successes of his former students.

Kelly Koller

Kelly Koller is a sixth grade teacher in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin. She develops an atmosphere of adventure in her classroom through her passion for ecology, project-based learning, and exploring the outdoors. For the past few years, she has integrated native habitat restoration and development into her curriculum. Kelly also works for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point as an outreach specialist, connecting colleagues to environmental education and outdoor learning resources.

Marnita Schroedl

Marnita Shroedl, founder of Marnita’s Table, created the model of Intentional Social Interaction. She has invented a replicable way to catalyze strong relationships between disparate organizations and individuals to deliver stronger, more engaged communities. Her mission is to decrease disparities and increase equality so marginalized communities and individuals are afforded their rightful seats at the resource sharing and policy-making table. Marnita has more than 25 years’ experience facilitating, training, and team building for corporate groups and senior executives. A skilled and energetic facilitator, she excels at demonstrating the positive rewards of proactively identifying and maximizing social capital.

Martin Heumann

Martin Heumann earned his A.A. in law enforcement from Century College. He served as a corrections officer at the Minnesota Correctional Facility at Oak Park Heights from 1997 to 2017, where his work included coordinating the Integrated Conflict Management System, serving as a debriefer for Critical Incident Stress Management, working as a field training officer, serving in the Mentor and Diversity programs, and instructing new officers. Now a real estate agent with Edina Realty, he lives with his wife, Helen, in White Bear Lake, and has two stepchildren, Stephanie and Benjamin. He has been riding motorcycles since 1992.

Matthew Bennett

Matthew Bennett is a ninth grader at Mahtomedi High School. He began taking piano lessons in first grade, and in third grade joined Dr. Reid Smith’s Dellwood Hills Studio. In addition to performing at his church, nursing homes, school, and piano recitals, he has performed with the Wildwood Artist Series; at the Landmark Center in St. Paul; and at international festivals in Italy, Spain, and Russia. An avid trumpet player, he is a member of three school bands and the Minnesota Youth Symphony’s Philharmonic Orchestra. Matthew also teaches piano to children and adults and enjoys biking, hiking, camping, and reading.

Naaima Kahn

Naaima Khan is a manager with the Bush Foundation’s Community Innovation team. She manages grant portfolios, helps develop the foundation’s relationships, identifies investment opportunities, and consults with nonprofits and grantees. Naaima has played a key role in the foundation’s diversity, equity, and inclusion work. She co-chaired a team charged with applying an equity lens to grantee selection and is a member of the foundation’s internal equity team. She holds a master’s in public policy from the University of Texas at Austin and serves on the board of the Islamic Resource Group (IRG) and the Eastern Twin Cities Islamic Center.

Stephani Atkins

Stephani is executive director of the nonprofit StoryArk. She also serves as executive producer and host of StoryArk’s radio podcasts, including Voices in the Valley; HUSH, HUSH Jr; and Carnation, and publishes The Boom Site, a youth literary magazine. Stephani works on literary art in video, audio, web, print, and other media. She also writes scripts and produces short films. Stephani has worked as a marketing director, English teacher, and director of student programming for non-profit educational programs. She graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, with a focus on journalism, American culture and secondary education.

Timothy DenHerder- Thomas

Timothy DenHerder-Thomas is general manager of Cooperative Energy Futures, a community energy co-op based in Minneapolis. Timothy also co-founded Grand Aspirations, which supports teams of youth innovators creating green economic opportunity for their communities, and helped co-convene Community Power, which has secured the nation’s first city–utility Clean Energy Partnership in Minneapolis.
