Since the dawn of time, concrete ideologies have crumpled and new foundations been laid by people who strove to make a difference. Working to keep the ethos of the TED community alive, we at DPU, Pune in our first edition of TEDx, attempt to celebrate individuals who, with their grit and determination resolve to not just be a brick, but rather make another ‘break’ in the wall.

Air Commodore V K Sashindran

Physician. Medical researcher. Professor, Head of Internal Medicine, AFMC, Pune

Air Commodore V K Sashindran achieves expertise in the subject of Infectious diseases, multiple international journals having published his work on HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis. He also started a national Young Researchers’ forum in 2006, that has today grown to be the biggest undergraduate research meets in the country. A national research champion, an expert doctor, a teacher known for his phenomenal and unconventional teaching style, a humanitarian and an avid explorer.

Anmol Rodriguez

Influencer, model and artist.

An acid attack at the age of two months, followed by fighting a lonely battle within the four walls of an austere orphanage, life could not get any worse for a young Anmol. Having forced to quit a job because ‘the employer could not come to work to see a burnt face everyday’, inspirited her to start wearing her scars as her best attire! Breaking all the conventions of the modelling world, which has been considered only for the composed faces, Anmol rose above and beyond all the labels and trolls, to set an example for all those who spend a lifetime stuck in silence.

Dr. Murad Lala

Oncosurgeon, First Indian doctor to climb Mount Everest, Adventure sports enthusiast

An Onco-surgeon and an ‘adrenaline junkie’, Dr. Murad Lala believes in breaking the boundaries and making time for adventure even after a hectic professional schedule. Besides becoming the first Indian Doctor to scale the Mount Everest on 19th May, 2013, Dr. Lala, has also successfully completed the “Triple Crown Expedition” in October, 2012, in which he summited three 20,000 feet peaks around Mount Everest and the “Raid de Himalaya”, the Himalayan Car Rally in 2007, 2008 and 2009, securing third position in the car category. Assorted marathons, sky diving, bungee jumping, parasailing, white water rafting and trekking in the jungles of Rwanda for mountain gorillas, are all off the bucket list of Dr. Lala.
