In times of uncertainty and seemingly endless possibilities, ‘What Next’ will provide a glimpse into the future.

Continuing and expanding on last year’s theme – [R]evolution – TEDxGoodenoughCollege will explore potential advancements in many aspects of the world, such as technology, culture, ideas and how these advancements can shape or drastically change our lives either in one or 50 years.

Alissa Amico

Alissa Amico is the Managing Director of GOVERN (www.govern.center), which works with public and corporate leaders in advancing on corporate and economic governance in emerging markets. Alissa was involved in establishing the MENA programme at the OECD with Ministers in 2005. For a decade, she was responsible overseeing the organisation’s work on financial markets and corporate governance in the region. Alissa has advised governments across the Middle East, Africa and Europe on the design of regulatory initiatives and institution building. She has published extensively, including several books, journal articles and as well in international media. Alissa holds a BBA from York University (Canada) and a MSC from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Alissa was named one of the Top 100 Leaders in Europe and the Middle East by the Centre for Sustainability and Excellence in 2011 and was recognised by Columbia Law School as the Rising Star of Corporate Governance in 2014.

David Lais

David is a serial entrepreneur and the founder of several innovative start-ups in the payment area. He started his first venture at the age of 16 and by coincident moved into the payment industry. After a life changing event in 2015 he decided to change his focus and use his knowledge for good to start fighting climate change. A few months later he started his latest venture, the German Non-Profit Organisation for Sustainable Consumption (Organisation fuer nachhaltigen Konsum - OfnK). David is focused on consumer education and uses modern technologies such as machine learning to help consumers understand their global impact based on their purchases by analyzing the underlying payment transaction. David is a real tech lover and software developer by heart and profession and likes to play with pretty much everything that requires electricity and, ideally, runs code.

Dr Judith Shapiro

Judith Shapiro was Chief of the Transition Economies Section, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Geneva, and then Professor at Moscow’s graduate New Economic School, before returning to LSE Economics . where she had received her PhD, to concentrate on the development of the next generation of economists, undergraduates in LSE’s Economics Department. She has won three teaching prizes, one national, in that role. The author of three co-authored books on the transition to the market in Eastern Europe, and research work on unemployment, gender, high inflation and mortality male and female, she was an adviser to the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and a member of the Macroeconomic and Finance Unit (“Sachs team”) advising the Russian Ministry of Finance in the chaos of 1993-1994.. Her study of male/female cognitive differences arises from her innovative Economics of Gender course, EC-208, at the LSE-PKU annual August Summer School.

Dr Saskia Sanderson

Saskia is a research psychologist working in the field of psychology as applied to genomics. Saskia is interested in how people think, feel and act in response to getting personal genomic information about themselves, and she conducts research to address these questions. A key focus of her work is to provide empirical evidence on the potential value of genomic sequencing technologies for people in many contexts. She is a researcher in the Department of Behavioural Science and Health at University College London and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. Saskia's training included post-doctoral research at the Centre for Cardiovascular Genetics in the UK, and in the Social and Behavioral Research Branch of the National Human Genome Research Institute in the US. She subsequently took up an Assistant Professor position at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Georgie Nightingall

Georgie is addicted to deep conversations, authentic connection and learning ideally all at once. Bored and frustrated with small talk as a Project Manager, she founded Trigger Conversations in 2016, which offers experiences and training to help people have more meaningful and stimulating conversations as part of their everyday lives. To date, Trigger has run 40 events, brought together 1000 humans to have 3600+ meaningful conversations. Every relationship starts with a conversation and Georgie is fascinated with how we can engineer real conversations that allow you to express your whole self, feel truly nourished, connected and provoke new discovery about yourself, others and the world. An intellectual enthusiast with a passion for understanding human behaviour, she has degrees in Philosophy, Applied Psychology and Linguistics and has undertaken extensive learning in the emotional intelligence field. She loves to ask questions, be a beginner and read across a number of disciplines.

Jordan Jarvis

Jordan helped establish and served as the Executive Director of the Young Professionals Chronic Disease Network (YP-CDN), a global network and nonprofit organization that seeks to mobilize young leaders to promote social justice and health, with over 6,000 members in 150 countries. Through YP-CDN, Jordan led global advocacy initiatives and capacity building to address the world's leading causes of death and ill health-- non-communicable diseases--with a focus in East Africa. Jordan is currently completing a doctorate in public health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She previously worked for Amref Health Africa in Kenya and completed a postgraduate research fellowship at the Harvard Global Equity Initiative/Harvard Medical School. Jordan is passionate about using policy change and civic engagement to improve equitable access to the environments, structures and goods that enable people to live healthy and joyful lives worldwide.

Kian Gohar

Futurist, entrepreneur, and innovation expert, Kian Gohar inspires the world's largest companies to harness disruptive technologies to transform industry. He is the founding Executive Director of the Innovation Partnership Program – a joint venture of the XPRIZE Foundation & Singularity University – and the world's leading corporate innovation ecosystem. His innovation career spans venture capital, startups and academia, in London, the US and China, where he was a Luce Scholar and visiting professor of Social Entrepreneurship at CEIBS. Kian is passionate about the intersection of technology, society and politics. He has presented at the World Economic Forum, been featured on CNBC, and co-authored a seminal report called “The Work Ahead” about the future of work. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and graduated from Northwestern, the London School of Economics, and Harvard Business School.

Leyan Al-Maghafi

Leyan is currently a student at St Augustine’s Church of England high school, about to take her GCSEs in physical education, history and psychology. Originally from Yemen, she has since lived in Switzerland and the UK. When Leyan is not busy revising for her upcoming exams, she enjoys traveling to different countries and playing basketball, her favourite sport. She also enjoys watching debates and occasionally drawing. Leyan is very passionate about history and learning about the past. This has resulted in her developing a passion for feminism. When Leyan is older she hopes to use her voice to push for peace around the world and end all wars.

Professor Samer Bagaeen

Samer is an urban practitioner & ambassador with international experience working alongside ministers, mayors and elected officials, practitioners and the broader community helping equip forward-thinking communities and leaders to plan for the future. Samer currently works for 100 Resilient Cities - Pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation in London and has recently taken up the position of Professor of Planning at the University of Kent. Prior to this, Samer led graduate urban planning education at the University of Brighton. He previously served as Director of Urban Studies at the National Resources Investment and Development Cooperation (Mawared) in Jordan with responsibility for master planning former military sites. Before that, he worked as Training Programme and Master Plan Coordinator with the Welfare Association in Jerusalem.

Richard Seale

As the lead automotive designer of Seymourpowell, Richard has been crucial to the expansion of the transport division in incorporating an automotive perspective. Since joining Seymourpowell in 2010, he has played a significant role in delivering a wide range of projects to clients such as Ford and British Airways. Most recently, Richard has helped Seymourpowell revolutionise the automotive design process through the development of RealityWorks: their cutting-edge virtual reality design tool. Notably, his work has also involved conceptualising vehicles to explore the future of mobility, from automotive user experience visions, to autonomous vehicles. Richard has also worked on electric vehicle projects from conception to production. Over the years, Richard has developed a breadth of experience in exterior and interior design for the automotive and rail industries, as well as in commercial aircraft interior design, working to shape the future of passenger experiences.
