Istanbul, İstanbul
Turkey

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

I am the vice president of my school’s Student Association, the president of the French MUN Club, captain of the swimming team and founder of the League of Schools, a platform for high schools in Turkey to come together through various projects...but these are just titles. I am a person who dearly values happiness, and seeking everyone’s delight. That is why I appreciate social service so much. I am a unified partner athlete at the Special Olympics Turkey; I regularly run in marathons with my friends and raise money for Toplum Gonulluleri Vakfi, and volunteer in the Aziz Nesin Foundation’s Children’s Festivals, painting faces, and T-shirts. I adore sharing my experiences with others, expressing myself and standing up for others.

Ayse Kelce

I am currently a senior at Eyuboglu High School and a part-time writer, debater, volunteer and dreamer. After learning how to read and write, I fell in love with the endless possibilities of combinations that the words could create. I had both successful and unsuccessful publishing experiences with my written work, and my first novel was published when I was 14. Since then, I have devoted my soul to the world of words, following the path of expression with debate and public speaking. I have been a part of both English and Turkish debate teams and one of the former members of Next Generation Politics Turkey. I have participated in Model United Nations and Model Government Europe conferences, hosting the EMGE 2017 as the Secretary-General. Despite listing my resume above, I am an anxiety survivor and a girl dreaming to study creative writing to be able to write freely in a room of her own.

Emre Ede

I’m a jack of all trades. As a teacher, I always want to inspire my students and I try to be an example.

Laura Fenercioglu

I was born in 1985 in Lithuania. As I grew up surrounded by nature and teachers (half of my relatives work in the education sector), I became a nature-loving teacher. I have been living and teaching English in Istanbul for the last 5 years. I love learning new things and travelling. I also like to challenge myself and do the things that kick me out of my comfort zone...because that’s the best way to learn. As I am passionate about my profession, I like to share the things I learn with my students. In my free time, I travel around Turkey, exploring its historical and natural beauty, reading, hiking in the mountains, baking pies and looking for new adventures

Nazlı İdil Ulusoy

I was born in İstanbul on 11 February 2004. I have a younger sister. I am a grade 9 student at the age of 14 as I skipped first grade, so I’m younger than my classmates. I have been an Eyüboğlu student for 9 years. I have various interests and I like to do everything as well as possible. I enjoy taking part in science fairs and drama. Being on stage makes me feel amazing; it does not scare me. I like music and have been playing the piano for 10 years.

Ogulcan Kaya

Just three years ago, as I was graduating middle school, I didn't know what to do. I knew I had potential, yet I only had good grades to show for what I could do, and I promised to change that in high school. I am not a genius or rich or socially gifted. I just took every self-improvement opportunity I saw and it worked. I jumped into the debate, MUN and robotics clubs. I ended up finding great success in all of them, not at first but after putting hours upon hours of work into it. Now I develop video games, which also was one of my dreams, I hope to succeed here like I did with my other hobbies….after a while of work and mediocre results. When I'm older and done with my current ventures, I hope to try racing cars, another one of my dreams. I don't suggest you go after things you don't care for, but if something interests you and it is realistic that you can at least start doing it, every second spent not doing it is a waste. If 8th grade me saw me here, he'd not believe how much I had improved myself as both a person and in terms of success.

Selin Sönmez

I am a Grade 10 student at Terakki Foundation Schools. I love doing gymnastics and dancing. I am also interested in playing the guitar. I am fond of biology, especially genetics, so I am trying to improve myself especially in these subjects and even entered a competition about genetics. In my free time I love reading books because I think that it is very important to broaden my imagination. I am an ambitious student who is planning to study abroad at a prominent university. The major I want to pursue is genetic science and I want to be a scientist who will work hard to help eradicate genetic disorders. To be able to achieve my goal, I am ready to dedicate my whole energy and time to my academic studies. In the future, I would like to work in a job which is related to biology because my aim is to save lives by using the latest technology. I believe my experience today will help me boost my morale and enthusiasm

Utku Diler

I am just your average teenager. The only thing that is special about me is my love for analyzing storytelling. I’m interested in every means of storytelling: video games, movies, books... I love them all. Who knows? Maybe I’ll be the next Tolkien. I’m quick to getting anxious and I have next to no public speaking experience but I am a big fan of TED talks and actually taking part in one is a dream come true!
