George Billinge
Student
A a 21-year-old Classics student at Durham. He grew up in a rural village in the south, where public transport was rare. As a result of my quiet location, I spent my childhood in search of adventure, sometimes by getting lost in books, sometimes by exploring the lakes, rivers and woods of the valley I grew up in with my brother and my best friend.
At around the age of 15, my brother introduced me to the idea that if you missed the village bus, sticking your thumb out might get you into town more quickly than waiting hours for the next one. Since then, hitchhiking has taken me from my sleepy village to Scotland, Wales, and the Lake District, and introduced me to people with worldviews that have challenged and moulded my own.
