In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Bea Fields

Bea Fields (They/She pronouns) in Maumee, Ohio. A daughter of mixed parentage, she has seen her fair share of discriminatory and micro-aggressive acts in her life. However, she has also been a witness to love, forgiveness and the cultural splendor of both her mother’s and father’s homelands. Bea has dedicated their time to focus on sociology and, more specifically, the emerging social values placed on personal identity and space.

Deborah Hendricks

Deborah Hendricks obtained her B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies and her M.A in College Student Personnel at Bowling Green State University. She works full time as an Academic Advisor. She developed and taught “Attention 101: Cultivating Awareness through Mindfulness” and facilitates drop-in mindfulness sessions. She serves as a guest speaker in university classrooms, community workshops, and presents both regionally and nationally at professional conferences on mindfulness within academic advising. Deborah has developed curriculum, conducted original scientific research (peer-reviewed publication currently pending), taught mindfulness on a collegiate level, and participated in active learning at the Omega Institute in New York under the direction of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn in 2016. She is currently completing the Doctor of Education in Leadership studies degree with a focus on mindfulness in higher education at BGSU.

Jennifer McCary

Jennifer McCary is a nationally recognized Title IX Officer, who serves in the same role at Bowling Green State University, where she earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Kelly and Darlene Glick and Mack

Kelly Glick has presented at eighteen regional, state, and national conferences on topics which include emotional intelligence and Trauma-Informed Care (TIC). Her doctoral dissertation on the outcomes of TIC training was published in 2017. Kelly serves as an administrator in Findlay City Schools. As a school counselor, Leadership Studies doctoral student, educator and business owner, Darlene Mack believes in the importance of developing students into productive citizens. Mack works passionately to develop trauma informed organizations by providing trauma informed care and Mindfulness professional development in education and business settings.

Lisa Hanasono

Professor

Dr. Lisa Hanasono is an associate professor in the Department of Communication at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). Her research examines how people communicate and cope with stigma, prejudice, and discrimination. After experiencing an unexpected and traumatic miscarriage, Dr. Hanasono began to investigate how cultural, institutional, media, and interpersonal factors shroud pregnancy loss in secrecy and shame—and how people can use communication to bring these important societal issues into the public sphere. As an educator with over 14 years of college teaching experience, Dr. Hanasono enjoys mentoring students, serving on university committees that support issue related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and leading professional development workshops. Outside of academia, Dr. Hanasono enjoys spending time with her partner John, her teenage stepdaughter Lexi, her baby Sean, and her horse named Tater Tot.

Logan Brown

Logan Brown is a photographer and videographer from Bowling Green, Ohio. He is a Sophomore this year at Bowling Green State University, studying marketing. He loves to capture the beauty of Northwest Ohio and share it with as many people as possible.

Madison Stump

Madison Stump is a second year student at BGSU, studying Environmental Policy and Analysis, pre-law. Madison is ready to motivate us to critically evaluate legal policy in a new light.

Phil Rich

A senior from Bowling Green, Ohio, Phil is Majoring in Accounting and Minoring in Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Law (PPEL). He is an Ambassador for BGSU Votes, competes on the Mediation and Model Arab League Teams, and is involved in the Honors College. He enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Rachel Harker

Rachel Harker's focus is on helping advocate for, educate on, and rescue pit bulls across the nation. Ultimately, she would love to manage her own pit bull rescue, and to have a program connecting rescue pit bulls with survivors of sexual assault.

Rodney Rogers

Rodney K. Rogers, Ph.D. '81, assumed the role as the 12th president of Bowling Green State University on February 23, 2018. Since 2006 as provost and a dean, Dr. Rogers has been a key architect of efforts and initiatives that have contributed to BGSU seeing significant increases in student success. Rogers has a Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University, an MBA from BGSU and a B.A. in music from Ohio Northern University.

Sara Stienecker

Student

Sara Stienecker is a second year M.S. student at Bowling Green State University pursuing her degree in Biological Sciences with a focus on animal behavior. Sara moved to Bowling Green from Albuquerque, NM. where she studied Biological Sciences at the University of New Mexico and received her Bachelor’s degree. After commencement in May, Sara plans to begin a Master in Business Administration program to equip her with the skills she needs to accomplish her career goals of ultimately serving on a leadership team for a scientific organization. Sara enjoys hiking with her dog and running 5k races.

Washieka Torres

Washieka Torres is a disability rights scholar, activist, and documentarian. She is from the South Bronx in New York City and is currently a third year PhD student in the American culture studies program at BGSU. Her disability advocacy has taken her many places including Mississippi, Toronto and Washington DC.
