We have a rich programme of guest and student speakers and stunning student performances. Join us via the livestream to hear how an organisational psychologist, a survival expert, a neurological data analyst, a materials scientist, an Artificial Intelligence guru and a transgender writer/director think our future can indeed be positive.

Anna Ploszajski

Materials engineer and Science communicator

Anna Ploszajski is a materials scientist, engineer and communicator, and was recently named Young Engineer of the Year by the Royal Academy of Engineering. She has just finished her engineering doctorate at UCL in hydrogen storage materials, sponsored by industrial partner Cella Energy. Anna received a First Class Honours degree (MEng) in Materials Science from Oxford University in 2013. During this she won a host of prizes and scholarships from Mansfield College, Rolls-Royce and the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. Anna is a science communicator, regularly performing stand-up comedy with Bright Club and Science Showoff across the country as well as talks to adult and family audiences. She’s a proud member of the Science Showoff Talent Factory, and was a FameLab national finalist in 2017.

Jon Howard

BBC Executive Product Manager, Children’s Future Media,

As part of his role Jon runs the Children's Future Media Games Stream which is responsible for developing all of the games on CBBC and CBeebies websites - overseeing agency builds as well as making many hugely successful in-house games. Making games for children demands a huge amount of specific knowledge about how kids use computers, appropriate cognitive load and how to maximise engagement. The most important factor of all is fun, and making sure that fun is at the core of all BBC Children's games. If the UK is to be a hub for the video games industry Jon thinks more focus needs to be put on how to write software than how to use it. This is at the heart of what Games Britannia is trying to achieve. Jon is working with the great and the good of the UK games industry, from Namco and Sumo to Bafta Games and UKIE, who were drawn to such a noble cause, and will launch a series of new games later this year.

Kit Redstone

Writer/Director

Kit Redstone is an award winning London-based writer, director and performer of playfully bombastic theatre. Using dark comedy to keep the audience on their toes, Kit's work is typified by direct address. His recent collaboration with Rhum and Clay Theatre Company won The Pleasance Indie Award for Best Theatre Show. It was also selected by British Council for the Edinburgh Showcase and shortlisted for both The Samuel Beckett Award and Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award. Kit is the Artistic Director of Vacuum Theatre - a cross-disciplinary troupe making cutting edge meta-theatrical work. He also works freelance and collaborates as a writer and director with other companies and practitioners around the world - showing and developing work in Greece, India and Denmark. As a transgender man, Kit is particularly interested in the performance of gender and who we are versus what we want to be. Kit balances absurdist comedy with explorations into what it means to be human.

Lee Sears

Executive Coach

As a coach and consultant Lee specialises in supporting senior leaders through major organisational change, fundamental culture change, and innovation led market breakthroughs. Over the last 28 years lee has coached hundreds of senior executives to develop their personal leadership capacity in the most turbulent times. As a co-founder of Coach in a Box, Lee has supported the development of a Map of key attitudinal changes that underpin the effectiveness of leaders in times of massive market challenge and organisational change. In concert with academic partners like Singapore Management University coach in a box have taken the insight from the world’s largest data base of coaching, to map the attitudinal and behavioural shifts that matter the most.

Maxine Mackintosh

Neuroinformatics expert

Following an academic career at UCL Maxine is now working on early detection of dementia using data science. Prior to starting, she leveraged her network to undertake more health innovation consulting projects and decided to take an extended trip to the Silicon Valley to see how the digital health scene compared to London. Whilst there, she met the founders of HealthTech Women, a professional network of women working in health innovation. As the London women-in-tech scene had been instrumental in her transition into data science, Maxine saw the value in setting up a hub in the UK. Now HealthTech Women UK, only 6 months old, has over 6,500 members. Maxine is now full swing into her PhD and balancing a number of side projects, including running healthtech events, growing a digital health community, speaking at enthusiast meet-ups and setting up a neurotech accelerator.

Megan Hine

Expedition Leader and Survival Consultant

Megan Hine is a survival expert, celebrity expedition leader, and adventure catalyst. Her vast wealth of experience and knowledge gained from leading hundreds of adventures across the globe enables her to organise unique expeditions to untouched and wild places.
