This year, TEDxConejo is expanding with the creation of a conference for and by the youth of the Conejo Valley. TEDxYouthConejo gives the opportunity to the youth of the Conejo Valley to let their voices be heard. Speakers from the elementary to university levels will discuss their ideas and visions of what they think about the world and its future. TEDxYouthConejo will be a completely student run and managed event.
TEDxYouth@Conejo is one of a series of TEDxYOUTH DAY events for young people that will happen across the globe on and around November 20, Universal Children's Day. These events will vary widely in size, format and theme, but they will share a common vision: inspiring curiosity, igniting new ideas, empowering young leaders.
The global theme for TEDxYouthDay 2011 is "Play, Learn, Build & Share," chosen by the TEDx community with the potential to bring to light creative ways to unite the 2011 TEDxYouthDay events around the world.
"We Have a Voice" is the local theme developed by the TEDxYouth@Conejo student leaders as they set the stage for their own 3-hour celebration and exploration of the world’s next generation of thinking and doing. Participation will be open to all students in the area (Calabasas to Newbury Park) public, private, parochial, or home, elementary school to university.
The event will be pooling speakers and audience members from several Conejo Valley schools including Westlake, Newbury Park, and Thousand Oaks, as well as schools from surrounding districts including Agoura, Viewpoint, Oaks Christian and Oak Park .
TEDxYouthConejo will be held at the Carpenter Theater at Westlake High School. The day will be filled with stimulating speakers and conversations selected to inspire, provoke thought, and foster a community of interested and interesting people. The conference checkin opens at 4 PM and the conference begins at 5 PM and ends at approximately 8 PM.
