In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Angela Irwin

Angela Irwin is an international Life Coach and founder of “Joyful Life Solutions” which specializes in helping women who are questioning their present life situation and are looking for support in working towards more clarity, confidence and fulfillment in life. Angela is particularly passionate about helping people boost their self-confidence, achieve their goals and be more bold in life. In addition to her training, Angela also draws from her experiences, numerous challenges and transitions in her own life. Angela is a SD native who grew up on a farm near Britton and graduated from Northern State University with a B.S. degree in sociology & psychology. She completed her M.B.A. degree after relocating to Denver, CO.

Dr. Jake Kerby

Dr. Jake Kerby is an associate professor of Biology at the University of South Dakota. His research focuses on anthropogenic impacts to amphibians and reptiles. He has over 50 peer reviewed publications and is an associate editor of two journals. He serves on the Board of Governors for the American Society of Ichythology and Herpetology and is co-chair of an international task force focused on preventing a new amphibian disease from infecting North American herpetofauna.

Kerri Mohnsen

Kerri Mohnsen and her husband, Moose, moved to Vermillion in 2016 for his coaching position with the University of South Dakota’s Football Program. They were blessed to meet John Lushbough with The Welcome Table and became weekly volunteers serving dinner for their new community. When she lost her brother Brian last year to a choking accident, she knew she had to honor his memory in a way which would spread his kind and giving spirit for years to come. Brian’s Closet, a free monthly clothing store, was created in his honor to allow anyone in need to “shop” for clothing, accessories, and toiletries with the help of their very own stylist.

Kristyne Duffy

Kristyne Duffy is the Volunteer Coordinator and Housing Specialist at the LSS Center for New Americans. She has been with LSS for four years. Her roles include: recruiting volunteers, speaking in the community about resettlement and cultural diversity, helping newly arrived refugees find appropriate housing and learning about their new community.

Lamont Sellers

Mr. Lamont Sellers serves as the current Associate Vice President for Diversity and Senior Diversity Officer for the University of South Dakota. Sellers was most recently the inaugural director of the Center for Diversity & Community at USD. He holds a BA in Secondary Mathematics from Shaw University (Raleigh, NC) and MA in Higher Education Administration from University of Denver (Denver, CO). Mr. Sellers has been a trainer and social justice educator since 2001. Specializing in facilitated intergroup dialogues, as well as topics of cultural competence, privilege and oppression, diversity in the classroom, multicultural leadership development, and other social justice topics.

Starr Chief Eagle

Starr Chief Eagle is an American Indian Culture Interpreter and Performing Artist. She is an enrolled member of the Sicangu (See-Chang-goo) Rosebud Lakota Sioux tribe, currently pursuing her Bachelors Degree in American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota Morris with some classes being taken at Oglala Lakota College. Starr specializes in the traditional art of Hoop Dancing, a very rare dance performed by many Indigenous nations all over the United States and Canada. The Hoop Dance brings about positive messages of peace, unity, balance, and healing. This is accomplished by manipulating the hoops into different designs, shapes, and creatures to tell a story.
