Theme: Building Bridges

TEDxMuscatWomen was the first TEDxWomen event to take place in Oman - celebrating the power of women and girls to be creators and change-makers. The theme for 2017 is “BUILDING BRIDGES“. TEDxMuscatWomen will take place in early November and will feature a curated lineup of diverse speakers spanning industry, origin, age and experience. The presentation will also feature a selection of simulcast segments of the TEDWomen event taking place the same day. The goal of this event is to help people connect in an environment that inspires the expression of unique points of view, and dialogue that can open minds and change opinions about the true meaning of Power.

DALAL DARWISH

Community Developer

Dalal Darwish is an Omani with over 12 years of work experience in the field of Social and Community engagement and development. At the peak of her career, she decided to leave it all behind to embark on a journey of giving and growth through volunteering in response to the EU Refugee Crisis.

Dr.ROHINI RAU

Doctor

Rohini Rau is India’s top woman sailor. Her best World ISAF Ranking is 94 and 5th in Asia. She created history by winning India’s first international gold medal by a women’s youth team at the Asian Sailing Championship in 2004, three months before her Class 12th board exams. She has participated in eight World Championships and numerous international events, winning six international medals and 32 National Medals, including eight Consecutive National titles in the Laser Radial. She campaigned for the 2012 Olympic Games. Rohini completed her degree (MBBS) at Chengalpet Govt. Medical College and is now working as a Doctor at Kauvery Hospital, Chennai. She is currently pursuing her MSc Internal Medicine -II year (University of Edinburgh). She works as a Mentor with Villgro (a Nonprofit organisation that focuses on spotting, mentoring and incubating innovations that have maximum potential to change lives in rural India.) Rohini is the Outgoing Curator of the Chennai Hub Global Shapers

HH SAYYIDA BASMA AL SAID

Psychotherapist

Considered an icon in the health sector, Her Highness Sayyida Basma Al Said, founder of the Whispers of Serenity Clinic for Mental Health, is recognised for her active efforts in raising awareness about mental health in the Arab region. The multi-award winning psychotherapist and hypnotherapist’s achievements are as a source of inspiration for the rest of the country and for reflecting the true meaning of Omani pride. Recently, Al Said was awarded the “Golden Recognition Award” by the Arab Women Council for her efforts of social responsibility and for the ‘Not Alone’ initiative to raise awareness about mental health in the Arab region.

KAMI AL LAMKI

Education Consultant

Kami Lamki is an Educational Consultant at Teclution Seeb Systems. Her background in education spans over twenty years in education, beginning in Texas where, after a few years of teaching, she was promoted into administration. Amongst her experiences, She was the Superintendent of an International School, She served as the assistant superintendent for 17 middle schools the Vice Principal of a middle school and a Principal of an elementary and secondary school. As an educational consultant she has served on boards of directors for various schools, including the board of directors for the Sultan School of Oman and for the ABA. She was also on the Women in Business forum of Oman with the Chamber of Commerce. She is currently working towards her Doctorate in Educational Administration. Through her work she is able to facilitate lifelong self-directed learning for children and adults, cultivating a learning community.

Lana is a PR Manager for Wataniya Airways. She is a game changer in the domain of Humanity. Lana is a catalyst in creating Charity organization helping them connect with patrons supporting Humanitarian services. Lana started from grass root levels in the field of Hospitality sector and the first Kuwait citizen to do so. Lana later became the Director of Marketing for a premium 5 star Chain of Hotels. Every stage in her career made her feel wanting to do good for the humanity.

NISREEN AHMED JAFFAR

Economic Consultant

Nisreen Ahmed Jaffar was the Director General of Investment Promotion since 2006 in the authority and now Economic Consultant at the deputy chairman office. Played a key role in developing the first strategy of Investment Promotion in the Sultanate of Oman that outlined the priority sectors for attracting inward investment, and the target markets for attracting investments and the implementation plan for the next five years. Represented the country in many reputed international and regional events to promote Oman Investment environment and opportunities and to advise the investors on the best entry strategy for Oman. Been member to many steering committees to name few: Oman-FTA awareness conference, the Businesswomen forum, committee for development strategy of SME’s in Oman, National Strategy team for logistic Sector, the team to study enhancement of trade with GCC countries and the national Tourism Strategy team.

Samiha Al Shibani is a graduate of IBRI College of Applied Science. She has Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design. Samiha Al Shibani is the a Graphic designer of 92 Design. She is very creative and excelled in the field of Design artwork. Samiha has incorporated middle east cultural design in all her product artwork.

SAYYIDA MAYYA AL SAID

Life Coach

Al Sayyida Mayya Al Said, is a Life Coach at Whispers of Serenity. She is a mother, speaks 4 languages and is passionate about inspiring others. The first Omani female to have her own YouTube Channel which was to inspire hijabis, which then progressed into hosting her own LIVE radio show on Oman FM. Sayyida Mayya is a firm believer that the world needs more positivity and aims to lead the way.

SHAIKHA NOORA AL KHALIFA

Entrepreneur

Shaikha Noora Al Khalifa is the national brand ambassador of the International Non-Olympic University which is associated with the international Nobel Peace Prize. Recommendation Forum, International Super Cricket Committee, World Sports Karate Federation and World Council for Regular and Distance Education. She is also the CEO & Chair Woman of Bahriani design company Medpoint Design. She is a member of a number of organizations including, the Al-Khalida Society, the European Bahraini Society, the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and the society of business women. Al Khalifa worked as a volunteer lecturer as part of the Enjaz programme with Bahrain University and the Ministry of Education.
