Theme: Illumination

The fourth TEDxKazimierz main event will be held on the 9th June 2018 in the wonderful Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology.

The theme of this year's event is Illumination.

We chose the theme of Illumination because it is associated with light, discovery and epiphany. On the TEDxKazimierz stage, we want to shine the spotlight on powerful, transformative speakers and ideas. Illumination also speaks to our core values of transparency and openness, with which we curate our events and engage in a dialog with our audience.

We have speakers from Poland, England, Holland, Russia and Scotland who will be talking about important ideas that we believe you will find moving, entertaining and inspiring. They include artists, journalists, authors, filmmakers, entrepreneurs and sports activists. Every talk will be simultaneously interpreted into Polish or English, as applicable.

We charge 50 zloty which is below cost and includes a lunch box and contributes towards our costs. This low price is possible only thanks to our sponsors, especially Urząd Marszałkowski, who provide almost all our funding.

Why have we chosen the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology?
Ever since its inception, the Manggha Museum has combined the functions of a museum and an active cultural centre, and this combination led to the crystallization of a new type of cultural institution. The friendly modern building accommodates a museum of a new type, which introduces novel methods and forms of operation. In the welcoming, sunlit spaces of the lovely Manggha Museum, TEDxKazimierz will allow great ideas to be illuminated and flooded with light in 2018.

While the talks from the stage are fundamental to our events, this is only part of what we offer. We put a huge effort into Audience Experience, making sure that every aspect of the day is as rewarding as possible. Participants can expect artistic performances, workshops and entertainment, as well as an after party at MashRoom starting at 8PM.

Tegoroczna, już czwarta z rzędu konferencja TEDxKazimierz odbędzie się 9 czerwca 2018 roku w Muzeum Sztuki i Techniki Japońskiej Manggha.

Tym razem motywem przewodnim naszego wydarzenia jest Iluminacja.

Wybraliśmy ten temat, ponieważ kojarzy się ze światłem, odkrywaniem i oświeceniem. Światła sceny TEDxKazimierz mają właśnie wyłonić z mroku idee prelegentów, które swoją mocą mogą coś zmienić. „Iluminacja” kojarzy się też z naszymi kluczowymi wartościami, otwartością i transparentnością. To one przyświecają nam w konstruowaniu programu naszych konferencji i w dialogu z naszą społecznością.

Mamy prelegentów z Polski, Anglii, Holandii, Rosji oraz Szkocji. Będą oni dzielić się inspirującymi, pobudzającymi i motywującymi pomysłami, wśród których każdy znajdzie coś dla siebie. Zebraliśmy w tym roku artystów, dziennikarzу, pisarze, filmowców, przedsiębiorców oraz sportowców. Każda prelekcja będzie tłumaczona symultanicznie na język polski lub angielski.

Dlaczego wybraliśmy Muzeum Sztuki i Techniki Japońskiej Manggha?

Muzeum Manggha od chwili powstania łączy podstawowe funkcje muzealne z szeroką aktywnością żywego centrum kultury. W praktyce, poprzez połączenie obu funkcji, ukształtował się nowy typ instytucji kultury. W nowoczesnym, przyjaznym budynku działa muzeum nowego typu, stosujące nowe metody i formy działania. Dlatego zapraszamy – w tym roku w przestronnych, jasnych wnętrzach Muzeum Manggha rzucimy światło na wiele przełomowych idei.

Angelika Skotnicka

Angelika Skotnicka is an English teacher, ICF coach, teacher trainer and graphic recorder. She has taught English for 11 years, and four years ago, she decided to start her own company, an English school where the teachers implement visual thinking strategies and graphic recording skills as part of the curriculum. Angelika is passionate about supporting others on their path to self-development and helping to create a new generation of future leaders. She says there is no better insight into what the future generation will be like than that gained from teaching a classroom full of people.

Arif Erdem Ocak

Arif Erdem Ocak, born in 1980, is the founder of group Seksendört, the highly pouplar Turkish rock-band. In 2015, he created his first solo album, Bahar in Budapest - using drum, guitar and Rhodes to create a special atmosphere. 2016 April-May, he joined Duman on its European tour. Recently, he’s performing in Hungary and other European countries, and is about to release his new album, Toprak, which creates bridges into the world of irresistible, hundred-year old, ancient melodies.

Harriet Noble

Harriet Noble is a BBC journalist based in London. Since the start of 2017, she’s been working for World Hacks on the BBC World Service, where, in addition to presenting and reporting for the programme, she is one of the senior producers. World Hacks is a weekly radio programme, podcast and digital video platform, leading the BBC’s solutions journalism coverage. Harriet’s work has received positive reviews from The Observer, the Radio Times and others, and has been chosen for BBC Radio 4’s Pick of the Week. She is also developing other projects for the BBC. Harriet is particularly interested in stories about families and mental health, and spends much of her free time listening to and thinking about podcasts.

Jakub Federowicz

Territory Manager for parkrun Poland & Deutschland Founder and Territory Manager for parkrun Poland and Germany. His adventure with parkrun started in 2010 in Great Britain. In 2011, he introduced parkrun in Poland, and from September 2017, Jakub has been also coordinating parkrun in Germany. Professionally, he has been involved in working for the Voluntary and NGO sector in Poland and Great Britain, supporting these organisations in accessing the EU funds and in the cooperation of the Baltic Sea states. Koordynator, parkrun Polska & Niemcy Założyciel i koordynator parkrun Polska i Niemcy. Swoją przygodę z parkrunem rozpoczął w 2010 roku w Wielkiej Brytanii. Justyna Uman-Ntuk

Pharmacist by education and an entrepreneur focused on MedTech innovation by profession. Owner of the event marketing company innoMED.co, co-creator of events brands, such as MEDmeetsTECH and Printed Health. Activist and networker, alumna of Healthcare Leaders (Lesław A. Paga Foundation), member of Young Healthcare Managers by the Polish Hospital Federation and member of the Kraków Pharmaceutical Chamber. She was also part of a research team at the University of Central Lancashire working on developing new ways to manufacture personalised drug dosages using 3D printing technology. An author writing about 3-D printing and communication in the MedTech sector for several industry publications, Justyna leverages her medical background and enthusiasm for new technologies in forging connections between those two worlds. In the past 3 years, she brought together 120+ med-tech startups and thousands of medical professionals, tech experts, investors and scientists. Justyna is passionate about advancing medicine and believes that new technologies are crucial for progress in life sciences. In her free time, she loves cooking, thrillers, and water and racket sports.

Łukasz Janczar

Animator lub też producent wydarzeń, niespełniony sportowiec (lekkoatletyka – rzut oszczepem, potem koszykówka, obecnie inny sport), od kilku lat pracuje dla Łodzi jako tzw. Urzędnik w ramach projektu Zielona Łódź, odpowiadając za imprezy w przestrzeni miejskiej (koncerty muzyki klasycznej, joga w parku, pikniki dla dzieci, turnieje streetballa albo zajęcia narciarstwa biegowego w centrum miasta). W toku kariery zawodowej epizod w korporacji międzynarodowej zakończony dość szybko z ulgą dla obu stron. Pionier curlingu w Polsce, organizator turniejów w Łodzi, Bełchatowie oraz międzynarodowego, corocznego wydarzenia pod nazwą Mazury Curling Festival, zaangażowany w organizację Polskiej Ligi Curlingu i wielu innych wydarzeń w kraju. W łódzkim klubie curlingowym - zawodnik, trener, działacz, kierowca, kucharz, magazynier, księgowy, ojciec i matka. Wiceprezes Polskiej federacji Klubów Curlingowych. Z wykształcenia magister ekonomii (cokolwiek to znaczy), prywatnie ojciec trójki grzecznych dzieci w szczęśliwym konkubinacie. Czasu na inne hobby chwilowo zabrakło.

Mark McKergow

Dr Mark McKergow started his career as a scientist and engineer in the nuclear industry and he has migrated into an international consultant, speaker and author, and director of the Centre for Solutions Focus at Work (SFWork). His first book, “The Solutions Focus”, has been translated into 11 languages. Mark is also heavily engaged in developing the practice of “the leader as host” – his most recent book is “Host: Six new roles of engagement for teams, organisations, communities and movements” (Solutions Books, 2014). Many people around the world have been inspired by his work, invariably presented with his inimitable blend of scientific rigour and performance pizzazz. Mark has been involved in an impressive range of positions and activities in recent years, having been a member of the Transformational Leadership Council in the USA from 2006-2016, director of the HESIAN research hub at the University of Hertfordshire from 2014-2017, and editor of the peer-reviewed journal “InterAction” from 2009-2016. He is an associate of the Taos Institute, USA and has worked on every continent except Antarctica.

Maxim Telish is the Co-founder of URBANIKA Farms, a graduate of the University of North Texas, and founder of several start-ups. He and his team are now focused on vertical farming in Krakow, Poland.

Michele Hutchison

Michele Hutchison is an editor, translator and writer. She was born and raised in England and studied at the universities of East Anglia, Cambridge and Lyon. She worked in British publishing before moving to Amsterdam, heavily pregnant, in 2004. There she worked as an editor and became a prominent translator of Dutch literature. She lives in a leaky, old dyke house with her two Dutch children. With Rina Mae Acosta Michelle is co-author of the bestselling book "The Happiest Kids in the World: How Dutch Parents Help Their Kids (And Themselves) By Doing Less", published in 2017. Rina originally planned to share the stage with Michele but due to difficulties with her pregnancy, contributed to the talk via pre-recorded video. The Polish translation, "Najszczęśliwsze dzieci na świecie" was published this year.

Paddy Ney

Paddy Ney is a British filmmaker living and working in Warsaw. He moved to Poland in 2010 and since then has been creating provocative, moving films about his new homeland’s culture and history. His films have been viewed over 26,000,000 times in the past 2 years alone. He specialises in short-form, social media content. In his day job, Paddy is Director at digital marketing agency James Cook Media. He is also the host of HiCashWeek, a weekly Polish-language business and entrepreneurship show for dynamic young Poles. “I have a simple test for what I’m doing,” he says, “it’s whether I can look my daughter in the eye and think, yes, this is making the world she’ll inherit a slightly better place.” Paddy regularly tours schools in Poland talking to young people about immigration, relationships and purpose and is a Friend and proud supporter of the Czerwone Noski charity.

Performance: Krakofonia

Krakofonia powstała w 2014 roku jako chór dla osób nieheteronormatywnych. Wciąż powiększa swój skład (wszyscy mile widziani!) i regularnie koncertuje, nie tylko w Polsce. Do tej pory zdążyła już niejedną osobę przekonać, że śpiewać każdy może, a chór może być ekscytującą zabawą. A przede wszystkim – śpiewa z dumą, będąc głosem polskiego środowiska LGBTQ.

Piotr Nabielec

W trakcie swojej kariery Piotr czuł się coraz bardziej przytłoczony tym, jak każdy awans przynosił ze sobą nowe zadania i jednocześnie jeszcze bardziej skracał dostępny w ciągu dnia czas, utrudniając zachowanie równowagi między pracą a życiem prywatnym. W roku 2015, z dziesięcioletnim doświadczeniem w korporacjach i mniejszych firmach, Piotr założył serwis Produktywni.pl. Oferowane przez niego kursy i szkolenia wprowadzają porządek w firmowy chaos, pomagają priorytetyzować i pokazują jak pozbyć się poczucia przytłoczenia.

Wiesław Kopeć

Wiesław Kopeć is part of an international interdisciplinary social informatics research team focused on ICT technologies for older adults. He combines high-level IT and business experience with a rich academic background; he worked on advanced network teams and on large scale computer-science projects at the Interdisciplinary Center for Mathematical and Computational Modelling at the University of Warsaw, and did extensive research on participatory methods and techniques of empirical software engineering at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology. Recently, his interests have extended to social aspects of applying modern information technologies with a special focus on human factors in software engineering, human-computer interaction, computer-supported cooperative work and social computing in the context of participatory design and advanced methods like Complex Event Processing, Process Mining, Machine Learning and Big Data for supporting educational and business value generation processes.
