Every month, the Santa Clara Branch Library hosts a TED discussion group where we
get together and view a set of TED and TEDx videos focusing on a central theme, followed by a discussion afterwards. Future topics and videos can and will be chosen by the group. Have a favorite TED talk? Share it! Have a topic you want to discuss? Let us know! This group follows the mission of the TED organization; a "community welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world." Come be a part of an engaging and welcoming discussion where you don’t have to read the book before you attend!
TED talks we'll be viewing:
Jude Kelly: Why Women Should Tell Stories of Humanity
Courtney E. Martin: This Isn't Your Mother's Feminism
Colin Stokes: How Movies Teach Manhood
Roxane Gay: Confessions of a Bad Feminist
We'll also be looking at the TED playlist "Talks on Modern Feminism" and books related to the topic, including "Dear Ijeawele, or A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, "Sex Object: A Memoir" by Jessica Valenti, "Are You My Mother: A Comic Drama" by Alison Bechdel, "Unspeakable Things" by Laurie Penny, "Difficult Women" by Roxane Gay and "We: a Manifesto for Women Everywhere" by Gillian Anderson and Jennifer Nadel.
