Catherine CESARSKY

Astrophysicist

Catherine Cesarsky is an astrophysicist with an international background. She is currently president of the Square Kilometer Array project, which aims to install hundreds of thousands of antennas in Australia and South Africa for the detection of radio waves emitted by the stars. In the past, she has tackled several enigmas of the cosmos through reflection and calculation, and has developed astronomical observation instruments that have been mounted aboard satellites. From 1999 to 2007, she led the Southern European Observatory, which in this period deployed in Chile, in the Atacama Desert, the most powerful optical telescopes in the world. It also had the responsibility for Europe of the first half of the construction, within an international collaboration, of a revolutionary observatory, ALMA, which today accumulates the discoveries of the universe secrets.
